Received a OH Trekker in a trade not too long ago on another forum. Great knife - I've been wanting one for quite some time and was stoked to finally get one. I find that the blade opens fairly easy and locks solidly. I think this is THE sharpest knife I've received OTB. One thing though, can someone tell me if it's normal for the liner-lock mechanism to disengage the opposite direction as opposed to most other liner-locks? In other words, it seems that the liner-lock was made for left-handed users (or at least mine is) to unlock the main knife blade. I got used to it, and have adopted a 'hooking' movement with my thumb to unlock the main blade single handedly. Just curious if this is how it is with all of the OH SAKs, or did I get a leftie?

That's standard at least for One Hand Trekkers (don't know about Fireman or Parachutist).
Before too long, you'll be completely accustomed to the lock, and your regular liner locks will feel funny!

I think the 'backwards' lock stems from the knives being made in Switzerland. It seems all of Europe, England, etc has a left hand emphasis versus the right hand emphasis the US has. Examples are drivers in England that drive on the 'wrong' side of the road.

Yup. Love mine too, sometimes more than the wife.

My OH-Fireman is by my side, more than my wife is!!!

I think the Fireman is a more useful choice than the Trekker, but to each his own, as they say. I have small-ish hands and so you'd think that the OHF would be harder for me to use, since it has an extra layer, but I have no problem with it. I really like having the ultra-sharp seat belt cutter blade and I prefer having the corkscrew instead of the oddball T-handle Phillps screwdriver. The corkscrew is a pretty handy tool for a variety of tasks, and it serves well to carry a mini-screwdriver!

I really like my Vic OHT. It’s a SAK whit a one hand opening/closing knife, what more do you want!! When going on a outdoor trip its always on my belt, but I keep a multitool or pair of pliers next to a fixed blade in my peck.

Never noticed this! The left/right hand is not a emphasis issue when something is made, just ersonal preference. European companies make a verity of stuff and look at the market. I have to say most people here are right handed. Those English guys just want to go into the standard. We have the matric system they the inch, we the Euro and they keep there Pound and so on… btw: the OHT is very easy to open with both hands.

Yes, the OH Fireman is on my short list of things to purchase soon. I actually wish that Vic'nox would come out with a OH in a plain blade, with a serrated secondary blade, though. Oh well.

I have found that I actually LIKE the half-serrated main blade on the OHF. It is unbelievably sharp and having the serrations on the leading half of the blade makes sense for how I use it.

That said, if you really, really don't like the serrations, it has been reported here and elsewhere (SOSAK over on KF) that it is not hard to remove them.

That two knife SAK with a half and a full serrated edge never seemed logic to me. A full plain and a full serrated is more useful (like the Leatherman ones) so why doesn’t make Victorinox something like that:grumpy:

Hey! I also have a knife like that, and a Sosak hat like that!

Like Tim said!

I prefer my OHT to the OHF as I don't belt carry it. The OHF is just that bit big to pocket carry. I thought I would not like the "T" phillips screwdriver, but I have found that on the OHT that it works a lot better than on the smaller Tinker SAK. the extra mm's seem to make it more effective.

I always use the OHT when I have to work with the knife. It is truly a workhorse. I seldom bother opening it with one hand, the large loop at the top makes for very fast deployment if you use two hands.YMMV !

By the way, the OHT and OHF are probably technically illegal to carry in the people's republik of Los Angeles, where carrying blades over 3" is reportedly against the law. I remember one person saying that they were going to modify the main blade on their OHT to be a hair less than 3" long for that reason - depending upon how you measure it, the OHT and OHF main blade is 3.25" or 3.5" long.

The People's Socialist republic of New Jersey is the same way. If the cop has a hard-on for you, you could carry the mini-champ, and that would be a "CONCEALED WEAPON!!!":grumpy:

I read a wonderful suggestion in another thread: if you find yourself in a situation in which you have no way to avoid allowing a rogue LEO to "confiscate" (i.e., swipe) your pocketknife, then snap the blade off before surrendering it.

I am NOT anti-LEO, by the way. One of my sons-in-law is a LEO. He dislikes rogue cops even more than I do.

Thanks all. I was thinking about having the serrations ground down to a PE, but I'll work with them for now - see how it goes. Not that I'm anti-serrations, but I just wish they were on a separate blade. :D

Well, of course, if you decide to purchase the OH Fireman instead of the OH Trekker, you will have a wickedly sharp serrated blade (the seat belt cutter blade) AND a semi-serrated main blade that you can change to PE. Problem solved! And, that way you have a SAK with corkscrew instead of that oddball t-bone phillips, and after all a SAK just doesn't seem like a SAK without a corkscrew!! :D :D

Does anyone know the weight of the OHT vs. the One handed fireman. I've got the Picknicker, and I want to add one handed feature plus the saw. The serrated blade on the fireman might be a nice addition, but I'm also concerned about overall weight. The picknicker is really light...
