Victorinox OH Trekker

It shouldn't be much heavier since, I believe, the OH Fireman has just an extra layer. Maybe check the Vic'nox website for weight comparison. The OH Trekker I have is pretty light, though.

If this won't motivate you to get an OHT/F/P,,,,,,NOTHING WILL!!!!!

England ... has a left hand emphasis
not true; most things are right-handed over here.
though the side of the road thing has always perplexed me; your way is more sensible.

EDIT:

how strong is the lock on these? Looking at the pictures, I would expect it to unlock given a good twist of the blade. Am I wrong? Is it as strong as a traditional backlock knife (eg this one)?

I don't have the other knife you mention so I can't compare it, but twisting the blade on my OHF doesn't seem to pose any risk of breaking the lock!

interesting, thanks for replying..
I'm considering whether to get a vic climber or a vic outrider to replace my spartan. See the climber has two blades, which I find useful, but he outrider has the lock, which would also be useful. Basically I want the climber, with a locking blade.

I don't think you'll get a 91mm size Vic SAK with a locking blade. Wenger makes a few models in that size range with locking blades, but I can't speak to whether or not you'd be likely to like them, since I don't own any Wengers.

hmm, yeah, I think I'll get this one :D :D

But seriously.. How hard can it be to find a SAK with 2 blades, a can opener, 2 screwdrivers, a corkscrew, scissors and a toothpick? That's all I want dammit. Locking blade a bonus.

Nothing Wenger do fits, unless I get silly and end up with a knife that is so thick it doubles as a brick if the need arises.
The Teton would be perfect it it had a corkscrew. The Traveller would be perfect if it had two blades. The EVO S 10 would be perfect if it has scissors.

The only thing vic do is the Climber.

You'd think for a not-too-picky list of features I'd had more choice. ah well.

Sounds like you need a Vic Yeoman or explorer.

They both have all the tools you're talking about. The Yeoman has a combo tool instead of the can opener / flat screwdriver layer, but that eliminates the small blade.

The explorer sounds like exactly what you want.

hmm, yeah the explorer's not a bad option; the magnifier may come in useful.. I'll definately consider it - thanks for pointing this option.
