Victorinox or Wenger

So, I've never really had a SAK, even in boyscouts oddly enough. But I've seen a few pictures of some alox samples on these forums, so I'm thinking about buying one. My question is, which manufacturer to buy, Victorinox or Wenger.

If you want alox go with Victorinox. Wenger has only one alox model, the SI, which is the same as the Victorinox alox Soldier but with a bail. The Vic Pioneer is pretty much the same also. Vic has a good variety of models and sizes in alox.

Quality is great with both brands. if you want plastic handles Vic has more variety and the standard size is 91mm. Wengers standard size is 85mm and I think that's why people don't like them as much. They compare a 85mm Wenger to a 91mm Vic. Wenger has a bigger selection of handle materials and they offer some of thier regular models with locking tools.

I like the spear point small blade on the Vic's over the teeny clip point blade on the Wengers.

Be careful! SAKs are very adictive. You think you´ll only need 1 or 2 models, and suddenly you´ve got 20+ and craves for more. I know, I´ve been there.
You´re warned!

i prefer victorinox, but i believe victorinox now also owns wenger. can't really go wrong with either imo.

Both are good, although I prefer Victorinox as well. Don't know why... they just feel good to me.

Cool, I like the victorinox badge better anyways. Man, I really hope I don't get as addicted to SAK's as Spydercos...

There both basically the same now anyways. Just look for what size and what tools you want and you can't go wrong with either one... I personally like vics better with all the options they have.

Victorinox owns Wenger now. Wenger seems to be distinguished by more ergonomic handles (Evo Grip) and some of the more unusual designs. The Vic Spartan in the basic red handle with large blade, small blade, cap-lifter/screwdriver, can opener, corkscrew, awl. The Camper adds scissors. Here's a tongue-in-cheek review I did of the Spartan.

My first was a Wenger SI and I carried it exclusively for years. It never let me down. Second was a Vic Farmer. When outdoors or camping I use the Farmer. For day to day chores, the SI is still my go-to SAK.

When it comes to Alox knives you really can't go wrong with either one.

The bail of the Wenger Soldier is poorly designed. It's only held in by a small amount of metal, and can easily be pulled out. In addition, it's possible to accidentally chip the blade if it snaps closed on the bail (yes, I did this...).

Otherwise, it's a great knife, equal to the Victorinox alox models. But if you're big on using lanyards, get one of the Vics with the lanyard ring.

True. First thing I did with my SI was lose the bail. ;). I don't put any type of lanyard on pocket knives so I had no use for the bail and don't miss it at all.

vic bought wenger out 2 or 3 years back. i always favored the vics because i had a long history with their kitchen cutlery. the swiss government bought an equal amount of wenger & vic each year before the merging.i'm not sure that there is'nt another swiss co. in the mix also. anyway you cut it, these knives are the best value in knifedom.

Vics for me. Wengers are fine but I never cared for their scissors.

Smooth vs serrared aside, the spring design of Wenger's scissors is far, far superior to the flimsy one V'nox uses. Apart from that, Victorinox is better than Wenger, IMO.
