Victorinox Pioneer

One of my favorites is the single blade one hand treaker. I believe that's what its called. I got mine from SMWK at a decent price. You can get it in either pe or se. I ALWAYS choose pe. There are so many choices but I've never had a bad Victorinox

Ok guys yesterday I went ahead and bought a Victorinox Pioneer in red Alox. This is one great pocketknife, and I can see myself carrying it for a long time. I had a vic Soldier once and didn't really like it that much, but I love the pioneer for some reason. Thanks for all the replies.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but if anyone has a "demo" knife, could you please post a pic of it? I think there is one at my local mil-sup for $5...

The demo knife is like a Vic Soldier with a few minor differences.

Also, can anyone speak to the durability of the coloured Alox? How easily does it get scratched? I keep mine in a pocket by itself, but I would hate to toss my keys in the same pocket one day and end up scratching my knife.

The anodizing is well done but it will wear. I've owned this Pioneer since the early '80s and it's spent a lot of time in my pocket over the years.

It's not wear, it's character.

I don't mind the wear at all. Mine's from the 80's also and saw a lot of pocket time as my only pocket knife for many years.

The Red Pioneers all seem to have visable "grind" lines on the tools while the soldiers are all very polished.

Character is one thing but I dont really want mine to wear too much, how were you guys carrying those? I keep mine alone in a pocket so I'm expecting too much wear.

I EDC the Soldier. The Pioneer is a safe queen so I can't really comment :D

I got one in february from gad-zooks.com for 18.99! + 6,96 shipping (to norway) :D but they're out

In my pocket and depending on when, there may have been other stuff along with it. E.g., change, keys, etc.

I keep my SAKs also in the pocket and they sometimes have company of my cell phone, keys, coins, small flashlight or other stuff. You could consider buying a tiny leather pouch that fits just right and can be put in the pocket. The SAK then doesn't wear much and collects a little bit less dust. I'll try to make a picture tommorrow.

Ever since I bought my pioneer, I haven't really wanted anything else as EDC. At first, I had it as "secondary" knife, but quickly it became main user. Today I actually ordered black one for the other pocket. :)

Yeah that seems to happen a lot, people (me included) end up carrying the Pioneer/Soldier instead of their "better" knives.

Well, Pioneer / Soldier does have great blade geometry, sturdy, great slicers and its people friendly. Very good knife. I've carried soldier nearly 8 years and I recently got red pioneer. Very nice knives.

These are great knives. I own several, but usually end up carrying the Farmer because it includes a fantastic little saw. And it adds a small amount to its width but actually feels better in the hand as a result. Couple it with a Classic/Rambler or Leatherman Squirt and youve got a lot of bases covered for little pocket real estate. Either way you go,you cant go wrong choosing an Alox SAK.
