I was in the market for a new Victornix Swiss Army knife, only there are so many features available and many combinations. I already had a "Compact Series Rambler" & a "Hunter" and was looking for one with more features to keep in the car.

Since I took the time to put together the below Matrix, I thought I would share!

I went with the "Huntsman" and was able to find one for $31.78 plus shipping, but it was one with the Mossy Oak Camouflage which added a little cost but looks damn cool  I liked the Camo feature (not listed above) and it was not that expensive.

I do like camo but I've dropped my stuff when camping and....well, enough said. Sometimes it's a pain just setting it down and then needing it a few minutes later.....

That's why traditionally, people carried knives with light colored scales into the woods. However, I must admit, that my Vic Camper (my woods SAK) has Black Scales. Anythng shiny is a help if you can't find your knife. I once dropped my buck Stockman doing the lawn, and the glare from the glare from the bolster caught my attention.

I have the Craftsman and the Ranger, pretty much the same knife except the Ranger has a corkscrew and the Craftsman replaces that with a Philips driver. They seem to be the most compact SAKs available with saw, file, and scissors.

If buying a SAK for carrying, I would pick one with a locking main blade. That'll narrow down the choice considerably.

Yes it does! My SAK "Hunter" has a locking blade. Interesting style of lock to, with a vertical sliding switch to release the knife.

A safe default choice is the Vic Soldier , or farmer . The Alox vics are a very tuff EDC .

Just buy one of each......then you can have fun deciding which one to carry LOL.

I have 8 or 9 SAK's. One of my favorites is the Pioneer Rancher. It is like the Pioneer (large blade, awl, can, bottle) with the can opener replaced with a hook bill blade, great in the garden. It is an Alox handled one and the blades are stouter compared to my other SAK's, particularly the awl.

I don't think you can go wrong. Tell your friends & family you like them, they are great gifts to receive.

Hey Guys...

The two SAKS I carry most are #1 The Outrider and #2 The RUK SAK...

The Outrider has all of the features I need except for pliers which my Wave or Gerber Tool cover nicely...

www.smartknives.com has good pics and descriptions of all of the SAKs too.

Nice reference! Wish they had retail price points and pictures of the retired models. My EDC SAK is the deluxe tinker model. CutleryandMore has them on a special for a screamin' price of $19.95! I've picked up several to give away as gifts.

Vic is quite an impressive company -- even in spite of decades of widespread copying, they still dominate their marketplace.
