Victorinox: Spartan vs. Tourist

There are plenty of vintage 84mm Victos with scissors, but they are no longer made. You could easily have what you want built out of an 84mm Climber or Super Tinker and one of the current production My First Victorinox Plus. Check out FelineVet Shop for a good affordable source of used SAKs.

Here's my batch of 84mm Victos with scissors:
Thanks for the pics. Sweet you have the waiter with scissors! Yeah i've been keeping an eye out on ebay for 84mm's with scissors but no luck.
I bought a new farmer via ebay from felinevet a little while ago, a great seller. I'll have to check out their used stuff!

Thanks, it took me a while to track all those down. That one is actually the original version of the Golfer if I am not mistaken. Nobody knows why they called it that though? There are several very detailed threads here and on SOSAK where UnknownVT chronicals the variations of Compacts/Golfers with knives and old catalog scans.

The 84mm Golfer is actually the only knife shown that I didn't get from Felinevet ( I just edited my earlier post to correct that). I got it in a bag of used SAKs off of eBay. Most of the knives were really beaten up, but the Golfer and a white Executive were in the batch and all they needed was a good scrub and sharpening.

The biggest problem with finding oddball 84mm knives on eBay is that most sellers don't know that there are 84 vs 91 mm knives, so they don't mark then as such. You have to just scan lots of knives and train you eye to look for the different proportions on the smaller knives. You can get good knives off of eBay if you really work for them and not mind cleaning them up. 90% of the time though you can get them cheaper, cleaner and in better condition from the Felinevet shop.

Victorinox Tourist is great little knife. Tourist and Recruit are my favourite 84mm SAKs.

I've got a Recruit and a couple of Tourists, I like them both very much, and don't feel as though the profile of the corkscrew causes any grief or noticeable in-pocket differences from the Recruit.

The Recruit is a very good-looking and nice-feeling one though, the size and lack of protrusions just feels excellent to me.

I own several of the 84mm models. Tourist, Sportsman, Recruit, Small Tinker. These SAKs are very nice options for EDC. Same functions as their 91mm brothers, just a bit lighter, but carry noticably smaller in the pocket. The Small Tinker is my favourite 84mm model.

Apologies for bringing up an old thread, but I had read this thread a few times before getting a tourist last week.

A few things of note that are different from the above posts.... The caplifter as of right now 2017 does have a half stop. In addition, there is a hole in the backside scale for a straight pin. The corkscrew can also hold the mini screwdriver.

I like old threads and I agree about the half stops. I have a Small Tinker and a Tourist both over 5 years old and both have a half stop on the Cap Lifter. Great knives!

Mine is a Sportsman, and in the short time I've had it, I am fast becoming a huge fan. For only a small reduction in size, it handles well enough to take the place of a Spartan and there is a noticeable difference in ease of carry. The 91mm models can be felt in the pocket, not bad, but they don't disappear. The 84mm versions, however, can be ignored completely until needed. And it has the half stop.

I prefer the standard-sized SAKs like the Spartan over the Recruit-sized ones. My Spartan, bought a few years ago, has the half-stop on the cap lifter. In fact, my Tinker from well over a decade ago also has that same half-stop.

Jim
