Review Victorinox Swiss Soldier's Knife 08

excellent review ,, many thanks
so the blade is the weakest part of the whole review .. interesting ,, all my vics have some pretty good steels , as in not soft

Ranger Grip series - There is a whole Ranger family, which were former Wenger designs. The more popular ones were carried forward when Victorinox bought Wenger. The closest model to this Soldier is the 78 or 179. They are larger, so they have a longer blade and a longer, sturdier saw. They have a really slick, button-actuated liner lock, which is great for righties and not very good for lefties. The Swiss shield is the button, which is a nice little touch, I think. The 78 is red with black rubber overmold and has a plain edge blade and a T-Phillips while the 179 is green and black, with a partially serrated blade (serrations toward the base of the blade) and a corkscrew instead of the T-Phillips. These are not suitable for pocket carry; they're just too big and thick.
I just generally prefer rather oversized folders and didn't become interested in SAK's until I finally noticed the RangerGrip models .

Size is relative and all depends on what you're used to .

I value the increased functional capacity of these larger knives . The 4" saw and blades can just do so much more . Etc . The big handles give a full grip .

I do not feel burdened to carry them in pocket .

However to be honest , the Gardener(with the large scissor /shears ) model is right at the edge of being too thick for a comfortable grip for my small side of medium hands .

I eyeballed the Rangergrips from the time they were Wenger Rangers, but I never committed to buying one. Earlier this year I acquired a Rangergrip 55 and it's one of the most useful tools I have used. The longer saw makes a bigger difference than I expected and the blade shape is excellent for a variety of tasks and long enough to do food prep without getting too much crud in the joint.
