I want to get a good quality multitool for daily carry.
My plan is to make a horizontal belt pouch so it is not so prominent.
I just wat one tool no lose bits or parts.

After reading posts here I think a VICTORINOX SwissTool Spirit will be a good choice.

But wich one?
I think the choice is to have the siccers or a second and smooth blade?
What is the serrated blade like? Does it have a workable point?
Is it worth offering siccers for the other blade?

And how about the steel, how tough is it and good does it hold an edge?

I hope you guys can advice me

I own two Spirits , an original "Butterknife" Spirit , and an X model with the spearpoint blade , I carry in a horizontal leather pouch - gets very little attention . The X is my most carried version , both are excellent , implement quality is high . The blade steel /edge holding is the same as that found on SAK's . I find it adequate .

Important disclaimer - cant comment on the drivers , as I use an old Skool Leatherman tool adaptor and 1/4" hex bits . The few times I've used the drivers they were OK , but I wouldn't use ant multi driver for anything but light duty use .

I like the scissors , some don't . I have not tried the S model ( serrated/spearpoint blade ) it appeals to me , the lack of scissors is no issue as I always carry a Vic. Classic , Rambler , or Minichamp ( best splinter remover ever ) .

You will need an aftermarket pouch , the stock one is not tight enuff, and does not have a secure enuff flap for horizontal carry .

Hope this helps ,

Chris

I like the original one with the serrated butterknife, but I do carry a plainedge folder as well.

It really depends on your system. If you carry a separate plain edge folding knife (usually one-hand opening) like a lot of knife nuts do, the original version with serrated knife & scissors would work. If this is the only tool in your pocket, then the X version with plain blade & scissors would be more versatile. If you carry a separate keychain tool with scissors like Vic Classic, Rambler, Manager, etc. then the S model is better.

The only problem is the S model other than in black-oxide finish is rather rare. Out of pure luck I got one, but now the store is out of stock.

I have the ordinary Swisstool Spirit with the serrated blade and scissors.

I was impressed by the serrated blade. It's very sharp, and seems well designed. The tip is rounded and has no sharp point. Although it doesn't have a sharp point, it's ok because there is also an awl on the multitool.

The scissors are ok, but they don't open very far. In most pictures of the Swisstool Spirit, the scissors are open as far as they go.

Thnx for the input.
Does the metal file have teeth on the side so it can be used as a metal saw, just like on normal SAK's?
I think I lean towards the scissor/serrated blade combi

I would go for the scissors and serrated blade to! Have them both. It's the best of 2 worlds :D

Well, this once WAS a butter blade:

After I used up the serrations (which are by the way on the right side of the blade), I just ground it down to this shape. Its a little slimmer than the original spearpoint blade, but it works just fine and takes a wicked edge...

So, no need to worry ;-)

Apparently it is availabe as a standard model as well.

So what do you guys advice, a serrated or a non-serrated blade?

I like the non-serrated version, easier for me to sharpen, and considering how easy the steel is to sharpen, I don't mind that it is a bit soft, I love the fit and finish of the spirit, but if you just want performance, go for the Leatherman Charge or Wave series, i love my Spirit X and I use it allot, but the Charge is a better equipped tool and the TTi blows the Spirit X out of the water.

I have both the Wave and Spirit S, each has its own place. The Wave is better for urban / industrial setting due to its built-in large & small bit drivers and diamond-coated file. The Spirit S is better for bushcraft because it has awl and chisel.
