Victorinox Swisstool

I don't think the Spirit scissors are as good as regular SAK scissors, but they are still useful enough. The blades are small and they don't open wide, but the spring is sturdier and doesn't slip tp the side all the time.

Where do the spirit scissors fall short? My Spirit's scissors seem notably more heavy duty than those on my Manager; although I can't compare to scissors on ful size models.

The Spirit scissors don't open far and the blades are short compared with the full size SwissTool X, for example.

Despite those shortcomings, I find the Spirit's scissors useful for small jobs, e.g., trimming a fingernail or an errant eyebrow or mustache hair.

I've really got myself in a sticky situation right now.

I typically used my SAK for most work, but recently it hasn't been enough. I decide to get a good multi-tool so I go online and start doing some research. Now, I've got over 5 different multi-tools on my wishlist and absolutely no need for that many :o

I've always heard about Leatherman so I checked out the Surge, Wave, Charge, and Core. Then I read that Vic had some really nice ones too, and I've compared all those models as well.

I think I'm leaning towards Vic still, but the bit kits for Leatherman tools would be very convenient. Do the Vic tools have anything like that?

there is a model of the Spirit with a bit kit and a ratchet. . .

I'll throw my .02$ in here. :) IMO, all the tools discussed here have been top-rate. My sugestion though: If you want a tool for it's ability to just "work", I personally don't think you can really do any better than the Core. It's got almost all the tools you could need in a no-nonsense package thats tough enough to take abuse. If you find that it sparks an interest in Multi-Tools in general, then you can go from there, but I really doubt that you'll ever regret owining the Core. If you really want to have all your bases covered you could add the bit kit and a Micra, and then you'd have everything!

Well, I finally made my decision. I went with the Swisstool X, and it should be here on Friday, just in time to take it to the shop with me so I can test it out. I'll keep you guys posted, and thanks for all the recommendations

Thanks for the input guys.

Just to make things interesting, I've started considering the Leatherman Surge too. From what I've read, it's a tank and I think that's what is appealing to me.

Keep the info coming

You sound like me! I was in the market last christmas for a Multi Tool. Having previously owned a leatherman supertool, buck tool and gerber legend 800 i had some things to consider when looking for my ultimate multi tool. I liked the spring loaded pliers on the gerber legend 800. I liked how the buck tool opened. I liked how the supertool had all of the tools that i wanted. So what i did was i looked at the top contenders. I considered SOG, Victorinox, Leatherman and even a larger swiss army knife than the one that i had. In the end i picked the victorinox swiss tool original. My reasons? I liked the type of pliers. Victorinox has never failed me in tool design. I like the polished tools, i like the ruler like i had on my supertool, i love victorinox's plain edge blade design, the spear point. I like the lock system on it and that snap you get when you close it. The pliers barely flex when you apply crazy force to them, but its expected because theyre on a pivot. Nothing close to any other tool ive used besides the gerber. So all in all, the swisstool original was my favorite. I would recommend the swisstool X to you reading all of the stuff youve written.
