What can you guys tell me about the quality of the swisstool? Anything neat/unique about it? How does it hold up to abuse? Just anything you can say to vouch for it or anything interesting to add. Thanks. I'm considering buying one.

I have Swisstool X (includes scissors) and love it. Tool selection is good, all the tools are accessible with pliers closed, fit and finish are excellent, and it does not rust :D It does not have the convenience of OH blades, but it's not a big deal to me. Get it, I am sure you will not be disappointed.

Not to hijack the thread, and I really hope you don't mind Suzuki, but if anyone could add where the best place to get one is I'd appreciate it. I'm thinking about getting one as well, but cash flow is a little tight right now....

It's all right, i'd like to know too glad you asked. Also, How do the blades hold an edge and what is it made out of? I own plenty of swiss army knives and i know they nickel coat em soo.

I got mine at Amazon, after checking around a bit. They seem to have very competitive prices, free shipping, and every once in a while have a $10 off sale for Victorinox items. If you keep your eyes open, you can catch a good deal.

Look at the Swisstool Spirit. It has all the quality and the tools of the original larger sized models, but it's much more compact and comfortable to use. All the tools are outside the handles except of course for the pliers. Probably THE best multitool on the market today.

Amazon has some awesome deals but you have to be there at just the right time. Check out Felinevet's shop as SOSAKonline.com, he has great prices all the time and the best service ever.

As for the quality of the Swisstool, it's in a class by itself. I went from a Charge to a Spirit and I don't think I'll ever buy another brand again.

What's this about nickel plating ??

PS - I wasn't crazy about the blade either, but since I carry a one-hand single blade anyway, it really doesn't matter.

That serrated spatula blade is for cutting just the sort of things you would not want to use your regular folder on -- heavy tape, coarse rope, wire. It's great for that, especially considering most of use carry another knife anyway.

I have the spirit as well, and it's very nice, but I keep finding myself trying to not abuse it as much as I can the Swisstool.
Regarding where to get it from, Felinevet always hgets my vote. That said, Amazon does have amazing deals from time to time.

Is that the one that has the corkscrew and everything too? I've been looking at that one, it's really got my attention and as soon as my wallet will let me I'm planning on getting one.

You can get it with a corkscrew attachment (and also a bit set, with wrench, that all fits in a nice leather belt case), but the corkscrew is not integral to the tool, it slots into a small opening on the back of the handle. And the Spirit is what I carry with me every single day. Used to have a Wave, but since I got the Spirit, I actually carry it. I doubt I'll ever go back to LM. My only gripe with the Spirit is the scissors. I wish they had the full size scissors like on the SAK's, instead of the tweener size (between a Classic size scissors and a full size SAK scissors). And like Esav said, you carry another knife with you if you want a pointy, non-serrated blade. It took me a while to wrap my head around the Spirit's blade, but it has definitely grown on me. And in a pinch, the awl has a nice pointy tip if you must poke holes in something.

Thanks for the info! I really want the corkscrew attachment, since a friend of mine always brings wine and stuff on camping trips and forgets the corkscrew. I don't really care that much about the scissors, I don't really use the ones that are on my Gerber Suspension. Really, as long as it's equal to or better than my Gerber that's all I care about. The addition of the corkscrew and a decent bit set make it very attractive compared to my Gerber.

The really nice thing about the Spirit bit set is you can get it with a ratchet, or the (less expensive) L-wrench. Be aware it adds quite a bit to the cost. You can skip it if you only want the corkscrew, because I think it (the corkscrew) is available as a replacement part for only a few bucks.

But that ratchet is just such a cool little thing!

How do the tools hold up to use? and the blade?

They seem to be doing fine for me. I use it just about every day, for about the last 1 year or so, and not a single problem so far. Mostly the phillips and the cap lifter:D get used, but I've pulled out the file, saw, and scissors now and again. No issues with any of it. The knife blade doesn't see a lot of use, since I usually have my EDC folder on me to do the cutting, but it has done the job on the few occasions I've needed a serrated blade. The thing I like most is that the tools come out singly, not in a big clump like on my old Wave. And they still pivot just as smoothly as the day I bought it. I can't say enough about the quality of this tool. I'm sorely tempted to buy the full-size Swisstool, just to see if it's as good as the Spirit.

The full-size Swisstool is every bit as good as the Spirit, but it is much bulkier and heavier. That's why I didn't consider a Swisstool until the Spirit came out.

See, that's what I used to be afraid of. It would have made a difference way back when I carried multitools in my pocket, but now that I've gotten used to carrying one on my belt, I'm wondering if I'd even notice the extra heft during daily carry. Ehh, I'll probably pick one up at some point in the near future. After all, can't have too many multitools!
