Victorinox vs Wenger

I prefer the 85mm Wenger with the packlock feature over anything Vic offers. I also prefer the added belly on the Wengers. It's my hope Vic adopts some of Wenger's features.

That's my hope as well.
It looked to me over the last few years that Vic was using Wenger to test new ideas while leaving the traditional Vics pretty much the same, and I think they came up with a lot of good ideas and interesting changes in the Wenger lineup.

I have a ton of Vics and about 5 to 7 Wengers. I definitely prefer the Vic SAKs. And IMO, nothing can beat either a Vic Alox model, or the Swisstool Spirit S.

I've used both, and to me it just felt like the Wengers were more cheaply made. I'm not sure if that's because I was always used to Vics, or it really was just more cheaply made. Either way, I don't own any Wengers anymore.

I don't personally like Wengers. My impression of Wenger has always been that they were a cheap copy of the Victorinox, and that they underbid Victorinox for the Swiss Military contracts so they could be the "Official Swiss Army Knife". I also never liked the "twisted" style scales on the Wengers. Just my opinion, everyone has one.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but the way I read it was the Swiss Government didn't want there to be any favoritism so they awarded the contract 50/50 to both companies??

I prefer Wengers combination than Victorinox often. Both of them are about the same quality in my experience.

I've had a Wenger left-handed Toolchest since I was a teenager back in the 80's since they were the only ones to offer a left-handed model but I still have a sweet spot for the Victorinox designs. I just hope that Victorinox will start integrating some of the options from Wenger into their lineup as I would love a non-serrated scissor with the Wenger spring.

Another vote for Victorinox - have always preferred them over Wenger for over 50 years now. I'll given one a try every decade or so, but the Vic always comes out om top.

By the way, my all-time favorite is the no longer made Victorinox Safari - longer, thicker, more robust blade and tools, lightweight checkered nylon handle, and a lanyard hole THRU the knife, not some dinky metal ring. You can still find them here and there. Get one.

Ordered a Victorinox Super Tinker a few days ago, so i hope it's good :)

Hos does the scales attach to the body? Are the able to change? :) Thanks boys

I work for Victorinox and I am aften in Ibach in the factory.
Victorinox doesnt know yet when Wenger knives will be moved to the Ibach Victorinox factory. Due to the great operational and infrastructural shifts it will take a while. But what I know for a fact is that the total production from Wenger will be moved to Ibach. The Wenger knives will get the Victorinox cross and shield logo. Of course the quality of Victorinox knives will be retained!
I like the fact that the great pocket tools stay in Swiss hands. And the great herritage and history will stay in Switzerland.
As soon as I have more information I will let you guys know.

That is pretty cool. Get any special items that aren't available o the public?

I don't see a quality difference between Victorinox and Wenger - I own several of both. Victorinox is more famous obviously, but Wenger seems more adventurous with their product lines. I've picked up a couple Wengers recently on sale at a large department store, and am watching for closeouts or "discontinued" sales.
