I am thinking to buy Victorinox Trekker knife with serrated blade and then grind off the serration. Will the warranty cancelled because of such a modification? Well, it will make the blade thinner, but I usually break Victorinoxes quite frequently so it is possible I will need to replace the knife under manufacturer's warranty.
Thanks,

how the heck are you breaking victorinox's frequently?why should you expect victorinox to keep replacing knives, that have no defect in material or workmanship?used properly a victorinox knife will last many years,I think you need to get the right tool for the job.

I've used a lot a knives and victorinox has become my fovorite,I've bent a screw driver and a saw blade but it was my fault, so I didn't try to return them.Under normal use a vic will last year after year. They have a great warranty but I try not to take advantager of it.Good luck with the trekker.

ive had my vix minichamp for 10 years and except for some wear on the handles and wear on the blades (wear = scratches) i havent messed anything up on it, and it is a tiny knife. What do you use your knives for?

Well, I use it like an ordinary knife. However, if you drop the knife many times on concrete, and I work on construction site, the plastic handle breaks down, especially if your keychain is quite heavy. The end of the handle with toothpick and tweesers breaks and you start loosing them. To find new plastic bits is as hassly for me as sending the knife for repairs, so I send the knife to Victorinox. I broke 4 SAKs so far this way.
The only Victorinox I did not break in the last 7 years - SwissChamp, but I do not keep it on my keychain.
Anyway, about my question: do you know if Victorinox covers the knife after removal of the serration?
Thanks,

why not just buy a razor knife with replaceable blades,or a mill knife with a sheath, they are hard use knives that are much less expensive to replace.(less than the cost of shipping to return your sak.)or take advantage of the lanyard ring on you sak and secure it to your wrist so you cant drop it.Victorinox wont replace a knife that has been modified.look at it from the manufacturers point of view.A knife come back with the blade ground down and the handles broken off, neither of which are the result of a manufacturing defect,it is going to look to them as if you got your money's worth.and I think you have.have you looked at the alox handeled models?they may be able to stand up to being droped better than the plastic ones.
