Video from Zubeng Knife website???

I think to avoid confusion we should came up with some unified testing for video so, it will be possible to compare different blades in same situation. I think Video from Roackstead with rope cutting an paper slicing is good base for this unified video testing.

I will try to do something similar.

Video on the web is booming and it will be about time.

Any other ideas different from rope cutting and paper slicing?

Thanks, Vassili.

Haze, nice photo!

May I ask, What is the knife on the far left in the second picture?

From left to right:

1) A crappy axe I got just to make sure I wasn't just throwing cash a way on all these choppers :p
2) A Zuben chopper (the kinfe you're asking about I presume)
3) Extrema Ratio short Kuk.
4) A Taiwan aboriginal chopper (head hunting knife)
5) Becker 9
6) ASH-1

Yep, the Zuben was the one I was referring to, I didn't even notice the ax. The talon hole caught my attention...;)

Nice selection of knives you've got there Haze! Very nice! :)

with all due respect:

i feel you need to compare apples to apples and not to oranges.

i just got the chance to watch the video of your link shown here.

i would think the man testing that knife is doing a push cut. watch how carefully he will place the knife on the rope. he does not want to take or seem to take any lateral cuts or lateral motion. that blade could bend or break. it appears to be a very thin blade. notice the glove to protect his hand from the thin blade?

he seems to me he must take care to keep the blade at the right angle and location. that is a apple.

as for the amount of cuts. his is about 700+ on that test. on master chen's test it was reported to be 13,000. there was about 8 guys working in shifts to do the work. apples to apples please.

master chens knife was about 6mm thick. it weighed about a kilo. it is used in a chopping motion. this is an orange.

the knives are not the same and the comparison is not the same. but that is my personal opinion.

with that blade as thin as it is any steel could cut. we all have saw the Ginsu knives on TV. they cut well. i have used them in the past. they are about .049" or about .5mm. so thin will cut. they used chinese 420 stainless steel. so the quality of the steel even with a Ginsu knife can cut well. for a thin blade.

For Example -

This is Roakstead video:

http://www.isd-ishida.co.jp/English/demo1-1.wmv

from this site:

http://www.isd-ishida.co.jp

This knife is sharp and keep being sharp for 789 cuts of hemp rope.
I see value in this video - I am impressed.

Thanks, Vassili.
