Video: I May Have Gone Too Far

Hey Rick......

Whew......,

I really loved this video for any number of reasons.........

First off smooth does not equal slippery...... Smooth means fewer hot spots and blisters and raw flesh with long term use......

Having said that for the umpteenth time I need to thank you for the vindication......

Also..... You got the original story almost right and Bladite got it almost right....... Anthony Lombardo and Will Fennell were selling for Blackjack way back when and were getting the to slippery thing from customers and decided to do a little test.... They went out to the Fennell farm and dipped a BK2 into some Automaic Transmission fluid and proceeded to repeatedly stab an innocent cedar tree (junipera Virginiana)...... Without deleterious effect...... Both could be described back then as large, strapping young men and they gave it their all...... What Rick did was successfully repeat that experiment on video...... One of the reasons I am so happy that he did this is that I will not have to do it myself...... I am old a relatively feeble and I do not heal as well as I used to...... BTW I have stabbed and chopped enough hardwood to see that Rick was really working the blade...... Nuff said.....

So thank you Rick for doing this......

Ethan

You're most welcome, E. It was my pleasure to do this. I'm sure this issue doesn't bother me, as bad as it can bother you, but it is aggravating to me none the less. I'm very glad, and extremely proud, as always, to do a video that you appreciate. Thank you for watching, and mostly for your support. At least now there is something to reference when this comes up time after time. Lol. See you in April if I don't see you before then.

Late to the party, as always. Good one Springy..

I knew from the get go that this demonstration would end well. Why? Because if it didn't, you'd have no bloody fingers left to edit and post it!

I am truly baffled as to how the point of the demo was lost by some, the vid proved exactly what it intended to do. Loved it. And how nervous you were at the start? Priceless!

Always love your vids brother. Keep em coming! It's why I subbed many moons ago..

HOWEVER, regarding this thread, does anyone else think it would've been just that little bit more entertaining had our good buddy Proton been here? I'll try and suffice..

"Rick, you didn't have enough calluses and you should've pumped way more iron before performing those tasks. And did you not check for random and wayward children before you started stabbing and hacking?! So irresponsible!"

Onya brother. Keep up the good work..

Perfect!

Thanks for sharing the whole story Ethan! I've only heard bits and pieces as well.

Thanks to CM_Rick and Ethan Becker hopefully this thread will be referenced by many and stand not as "somebody has to prove a point" blah blah blah...but as an actual informative and educational piece to enlighten new or even veteran owners as to the intention of the handle design and composition. It has shown not to be "cheap plastic scales" made up by Ka-Bar, but a purpose driven part of the design.

Well the boss mentioned this so I figured it needed watching. Very cool Rick. Glad to see it worked out well, but I figured it probably would. Way back when suffering from a bout of thinking my handles might be too slick but also feeling that maybe big oles gouges or holes or whatever might be a bit much, I had some handles sandblasted and I think it really served as a nice compromise. It added (on a very small level) more surface area while not generating any hot spot causing problem areas. Remind me next time I see ya and I will show em to ya.

Next test is to oil up Murph and Moose and have em go at eachother with a BK7.

i swear i have an email/article somewhere saying 50 gallon drum ;)

cedar tree? that's new to me

or it could just be oral tradition gone wrong

yeah, ATF fluid - that's mineral oil?

Thanks, guys.

Springy, that impression was spot on.

Slice, that is exactly why I did it.

Derick, show me at the gathering, man. I'll stab something after I eat a handful of greasy bacon.

Bladite, the story of my test will probably get told a few different ways, too. Probably by next week.

You deleted the video already?

..... I heard this story from The Man himself.. Didn't think about trying it. didn't think I knew anyone that would try it....Well I guess I was wrong. Glad to see he walked away with all parts still attached.

Man........ don't you know you are supposed to oil the blade, not the handle??? (unsubscribed)

And I never trust these Youtubers anyway! Must be a Hoax. Everyone knows Becker handles are way to slick for hard use knives. TPE is the way to go!

But If I have learned anything from Youtube, it's that you need Wilson Wrap! Lot's of Wilson Wrap! Other wise Becker's are just useless. Right?

I'm not doing this again.

Ban this guy!!!

I just saw a similar vid on YouLube...
It was Derek and Moose...
With olive oil...
The similarities end there...

everyone in this thread that can be banned will, unless they sent unmarked funds to that coffee can in the corner down the lane, you know the one.

12 hours to opt in :D

i am tempted to craft a "testing rod" :D
