Wow! Thanks for sharing that. That was one of the most interesting things I've seen in awhile. I learned from this.

That was great!

I went on a Caribou hunt in the James Bay La Grande hydro project area a few years ago. We stayed on a Cree reservation. It is incredible country and there is a huge conflict... cheap electric power production vs. native people's land rights.

It is bizarre to travel so far from civilization and suddenly come onto one of the enormous Hydro-Quebec projects, the size and scale of which are hard to fathom.

Thanks for sharing the link to that great video. Canada's NFB does some absolutely top-notch work. One of my all-time favorites is "Waterwalker" featuring canoeist Bill Mason. I have the video tape. It's on the web site here: http://www.nfb.ca/film/waterwalker/

Stay sharp,

I hope they watch it as well. It was GREAT. I am going to watch it again tomorrow.

I really liked the carved spoon. Now they know how to carve a spoon, or was that a snow shovel? ;)

I also liked what they said about taking their children out of the white man's school as they were forgetting how to live off the land.

Onething that surprised me was how hard it was to find game for them to hunt. It kind of reinforces what I have always said about people who think they will run off into the woods and survive should the SHTF. It is not that easy, plus all the men did was hunt. The women took care of the entire camp to include gathering wood.

SEEMS TO ME THAT MOST PEOPLE "ROMANTICALLY" THINK ABOUT HOW IT WOULD BE TO LIVE OFF THE LAND----THEY DID NOT LOOK LIKE THEY WERE HAVING FUN...BUT TRYING TO SURVIVE.

I THINK EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH IT---

AND THANKS FOR THE LINK DESMOBOB!!!!

It kinda makes me chuckle referring to this as survival.. because this is.. really how they should be living, yearly rather then seasonal.. it's not a matter of life or death really... its more them honoring their ancestors, for instance an Inuit with land is someone blessed by the past, there's a saying.. we work for future generations.

Especially for the head of the family, if he is unable to pass on the traditions and the skills left to him by his ancestors, they are not very well looked upon.. especially if they go into town. But now.. times are even more f* up there are more of them that decide "to hell with their traditions" and stay in town getting plastered and wasting their time basicly.

On another note.. These people are well prepared when they go to their seasonal camps.. There's plenty of small inlets and lakes. that one could catch fish forever.. As for meat.. well the most of it travels in bunch.. so it's luck of the draw if anything comes on your property. and what a luck.. considering the size of the territories.

So long story short...As much as PBS tries to give them good coverage so that they can keep whatever land they claim theirs... I don't think that they truly are deserving of this wildlife. there's only a small % of them who still practice.. the rest are a bunch of tanking S.O.B's I would know.. I'm one of them.
