Video - MOABOLO Chop Chop

Oh be still my heart! What a chopper!!!!
Dagnabit Rob, now I'm coveting your MOABOLO!!!

Can't wait to see the chop-off video!!!

Hi Rob, nice going

That Bolo is the only knife that has piqued my interest in another Busse since I don't know how long ???

If you do a test can you give the weights of the blades used please.

I am fairly settled now on a threesome of my custom Zilla, Basic 9 and Paramilitary Spyderco for Bergan, Belt and Pocket carry.

Big fan of a Bolo re-curve though - used this style a lot in the past. So would be interested in a weight v performance review.

Cheers mate:thumbup:

Hey mate,

Here's a quick weigh in and comparison with the TTKZ. I will do a direct comparison in performance between the two along with a couple of others in a video in the not too distant future.

Thought I'd give the mighty MOABOLO a go today. It is one hell of a chopper. I reckon it's almost on par with the MOAB and definitely out chops the TTKZ.

That is certainly intriguing, but my TTKZ was not a great chopper until Garth improved the edge geometry. Huge improvement after that. Do you have calipers? What is the thickness behind the edge?

No calipers here unfortunately.

You are not helping me not want one Rob :)

Great video Rob. Makes me wish I'd tried for one! I really need to stop watching these videos for awhile. It was a video I saw late last summer of a TGLB that started me on my INFI addiction! The more I see of Busse, the more I WANT!!!! I must resist for a while and let my credit card "cool off"!:D

Thanks for the weigh in Rob  Not much between them both on weight - so the comparison will be very interesting

The Bolo looks to be thicker stock but the greater depth of blade on the Zilla balances the scales.

I was hoping for a lighter weight Bolo. Something to occupy the gap between the Zilla and the Battle Mistresses - but that Bolo is a Beast!

Hey Peter...I remember learning a lot from your posts in the past. I am grateful for the eye opening things I've read in those posts over the years. Having said that, iirc you are into lighter weight whenever possible and totally understand why you'd be hesitant to jump on a bolo that offers no significant weight savings over the kz2...

Fwiw, in hand the moabolo feels pretty well balanced and based on memory, feel, and cutting performance, seemingly thinner behind the edge than the TG, SFNO, BJ, and I'd say the CGFBM as well...not as thin as the 1311, but not bad at all, especially considering thickness. I know this isn't very scientific data, but I was surprised. Even Ban (who knows good edge geometry) was impressed by it, if that counts for anything.

I haven't handled any of the KZs yet so I can't offer any comparison between them and the MOABolo...

If you can get your hands on one, I recommend it. I think you'd be quite pleased...and the nice thing is, you know you'd have no trouble getting rid of it if you don't end up liking it!

Anyway man, I hope you're well :)
