VIDEO: Spyderco Para 2 S30V Push Cutting TP

Did you notice additional resistance with this knife over the S90V?

S30V will take a finer edge than S90V so it was slightly less.

S90V cuts so aggressively that it doesn't have to as sharp to cut.

THAT is "push cutting?"

ANY of my knives will drag through TP like that.
I always called push cutting the simple push on the edge of the paper starting the cut.
The top of the paper isn't shown in that video.

Video or it didn't happen. ;)

I always thought push-cutting was the same motion one would use to shave one's face (ie: pushing the blade in a direction perpendicular to the edge)... If I tried to shave my face with the motion in the video, I'd be needing some serious stitches .

I thought this was push cutting:

Still, slicing through free-hanging TP like that is a damn impressive feat for a knife . That's wicked sharp!

The problem is that TP isn't strong enough to do that with, won't hold it like newsprint or phonebook paper ect.

It is however very tough to cut it clean slicing and even harder to push cut through it without tearing it like in the video.

Aye, that's probably sharp enough :)

But I have seen toilet paper used in cutting contests

And I thought push-cutting should be 90° to the object being cut.

YEAH !!!

Nyaah nyaah on the video! It was SLICING! Bwaaahhhhh....

VINDICATION !!! :D

When are you coming out with your impressions videos on the Para 2 S30V and the Manix 2 CTS-XHP Jim? I've been checking. Are you going to shoot them?

Manix 2 wasn't mine.

I am waiting for the weather to get better to do them, raining etc again today. :(

I have to do:

Para 2 S90V and S30V

Gayle Bradley.

I have some other videos to do also.

You outdid yourself again, Jim! If you ever make it to BC, I have a beer waiting for ya.

Me too. In the video the blade is nearly parallel to the paper.

Let's see you guys post videos of your sharpened knives slicing toilet paper. I think we're splitting hairs here wouldn't you agree? ;)

I don't think that invalidates the notion that push-cutting is supposed to be done with the edge perpendicular to the medium.

Description of Ad Hominem

Translated from Latin to English, "Ad Hominem" means "against the man" or "against the person."

An Ad Hominem is a general category of fallacies in which a claim or argument is rejected on the basis of some irrelevant fact about the author of or the person presenting the claim or argument. Typically, this fallacy involves two steps. First, an attack against the character of person making the claim, her circumstances, or her actions is made (or the character, circumstances, or actions of the person reporting the claim). Second, this attack is taken to be evidence against the claim or argument the person in question is making (or presenting). This type of "argument" has the following form:

1. Person A makes claim X.
2. Person B makes an attack on person A.
3. Therefore A's claim is false.
