VIDEOS: Chop Off - FFBM, NMFBM, BWM, CS TM

That is why I have more than one knife. For personal protection on short trips in the bush, a lighter weight knife like the CS Trailmaster. When on extended camping trips something heavier is needed for chopping. It depends what tasks you require a large knife to perform.
I'd like to see a video of a chop off between the NMFBM and a GB Small Forest Axe.

Don't have a smaller axe, all I have is a full size felling axe. ;)

I've been looking into buying a large blade to go with my recon scout and fallkniven F1. Mainly for chopping which the recon scout is capable of but is very tiring.

Two things are holding me back though. Weight and price. To get a decent chopper you have to haul 25-30oz or so of steel and the blade is so big that you won't be doing much else with it. The price is also prohibitive unless you want to get a BK9 etc but then you lose out on quality.

Why not just get a saw for a fifth the price (or less) and a fraction of the weight? Even a crappy hand chain saw would get through that 4x4 in a fair time and with a much cleaner cut. It would be safer too I imagine.

It's not about the 4x4, it's more about the wood in the field that would need to be cut etc. The NMFBM and FFBM will cut faster than a saw will and safer than an Axe to use.

Hey, do you have any pics of the CG FBM in action? I noticed it wasn't on your field knives review so I figure you've sold it but if you have pics of it in action could you post them on a thread or something.

I know everyone rates it very highly but there aren't many pics on here for it. Except in the sales section! I'm still having trouble deciding between a BWM and FBM, I've ordered a BWM and offered cash/trade to a guy for my ASH1 with a nice sheath for a CG FBM. If he wants to trade I will just get both and pic my favorite.

In your opinion which knife is best all round for splitting/chopping?
I know the BWM is convexed which is good for chopping but the FBM is heavier/thicker.
I would really appreciate your input cos' your a god damn INFI pimp:thumbup:
Gabriel.

P.S how's the weather right now in North Carolina? We've got thunder over here in Iowa :D

Yes there is one video, and old one of me chopping with my CG FBM. Just follow the link in my sig to my page.

The best one hands down is the NMFBM for battoning, it just kicks serious tail battoning. Really it's just the king all the way around IMO.

The weather is nice here now, like 80 degrees and sunny today, will be like 70 degrees tomorrow and sunny.

These are old:

Thanks for posting, I would really like an NMFBM but there seriously pricey, and hard to come by. The last one I saw was going for $650 unsheathed and unshipped. Anyway I guess I'll just have to see whether I prefer the feel of the BWM or FBM and possibly consider getting an NM in the future... If there not extinct by then! I saw all of your videos of the NM and man were they pretty! It is hands down the most monstrous brute of a blade I've ever had the privilege of seeing in action. I look forward to watching some more of your awesome vids in the future.
Thanks a million

Thanks man. :)

The NMFBM is no joke and IMO the best and most versatile of the FBM's, it can do just about anything that smaller knives can do and up to what most Hatchets and smaller axes can. With it's fine edge profile and Convex grind it bites very deep while still being strong enough yet fine enough for making fuzzy sticks.

I have both the CG and the LE versions, but I don't use the LE.

If you watch you can pick them up for around $600 and sometimes less if you are not in a hurry.

Even though, I probably don't have as much experience as lot of you,

Knife weighing 1.75 and 2 pounds aren't good especially when you need to hack.
Such a heavy knives will tired you quickly.

Not really because these will go though fast enough that it won't matter much.....

With a lighter knife one would be chopping forever and they would really be getting tired.

And there is the good weight bad weight argument. Some knives heavier or even lighter have better balance and distribution making them more effective and less tiring. Those Busses are pure choppers! Great steel, great grip, and great balance. Only held one once...and that was all it took. Someday...someday! I need a really good big chopper. If I were in bear country I would take it...but for weight and versatility I would do the CS TM. Not really the same comparison, the TM isnt better for all around camping. The BWM and such are better choppers and batoners..oh and zombie slayer!

I have a FFBM. I think its biggest drawback is that its so thick. That caused to bash through stuff more than cut sometimes. I have an 11.5 inch Moran style Bowie that I had custom made. Its got distal taper and is much lighter. Goes through green wood twice as fast as the FFBM. For batoning, the Busse is king.
