Videos of Convexed AK47 and FBMLE

Wasn't that the fella that baton'd his FBMCG through a rather thick piece of wood and kinda had the blade angled downward with the scales touching the wood while he was batoning it through and just scissored/sheared the tube fasteners off?

I never saw that post but I think that it would take a tremendous amount of force to shear off those stainless tubing. I would think that the handle slabs would have more likely cracked or split first. But then again those thick MAG G10 scales can be quite strong. In any case, the Blk/Tan G10 scales on this particular AK is held in place by five .035 (wall thickness) tubing and I doubt that it will go anywhere anytime soon :D

cool videos, and the pics do not even come close to doing either one of these knives justice. the AK is beyond outstanding, i'm glad i got a chance to check it out.

I was surprised at how early the slabs loosened during Noss's testing with with the FFBM

You meant how long it took for the handles to come apart from the knife right? :D That FFBM took an incredible amount of beating by the time those handles came off. Those full on metal impacts against the pipe joint caused enough shock over time to even snap a .320 thick piece of INFI.

Right! The knife proved it's worth, and the slabs did stay on for a good long beating. I was just surprised at how early in the test the slabs loosened.

Do you know at what point it started to loosen? I don't really have the time to watch the whole video. thanks!

I guess it wasn't as early as I remembered it :o Just earlier than I guess I expected it:D It wasn't until the 5th segment, around 4:40 into the clip. That's almost 45 minutes into the test. It happed while he was batonning through a 2x6 with a 3lbs sledge.

Do you mean my 14?

That was my first hack and slower than I could do. If I had any technique I think I could go through the whole case.

The thing that surprised me was the last bottle. I threw it in the air and sliced it. After it fell to the ground I looked at it. The cut was super smooth, no tearing, no signs of stress, just a clean, clean cut. I expected an ugly cut, a cut half way through the bottle or a curved cut

That was the first time I've tried to cut a bottle in the air and I just flailed at it. It was all about the edge because I was lucky to just hit the thing.

The scales may or may not have been sheared clean, but they were at the least...sort of pushed back...bending/crushing/shearing the tubes. I'm pretty sure the scales were magnum canvas micarta. I remember Jerry made a post to the guy saying it would be taken care of promptly even though it was obvious the guy was 100% at fault. I can't remember which member it was though...I don't think I've been seeing him post much recently...

so ban reground a CGFBM to look like a FBMLE????

that means he had to give it a full height grind and grind out the CBT's????

sounds like a lot of work...

and i just noticed that ban also removed the scallops in the spine to give it a flat spine....
