Village Sarge Knife

I've etched two of them and they looked about the same. The hardened zone covers the tip, part of the clip, and about half of the edge.

Ahhh, just what I needed to know, the first of mine should arive today, and I wanted to know, so that I could decide how I wanted to sharpen it.

If any more of these villagers pop up, especially any with chandan handles, well fellers, the race is on. ;)

Just got my "7 1/3 inch 2 ounce village Sarge knife. Satisal wood handle."

Uhhh, guys... There is no false edge on this thing... It has a fully sharpened top edge, witch makes it illeagel in Texas...

The "8 inch 4 ounce Sarge Knife by Bura. Antler handle. $35 delivered." one I got on the Dashain and Tihar special. (10/11/05)
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=368078 was also quite sharp, though you MIGHT be able to call it a false edge, but it would be VERY 'iffy'...
Is it normal for them to be this sharp? the Bura one is sharper than the false edge on the Air Force Survival Knife... While the one on the village sarge is sharper than the EDGE of the Air Force Survival Knife!!!

I think it's fairly common for them to come pretty sharp. Mine wasn't THAT sharp when I got it, but Bura hadn't perfected them just yet. I sharpened mine up to an obtuse shave-with-effort edge and turned the primary edge into a razor blade. I would say that legal is as legal does with a knife like this. I can't imagine any 7" knife wouldn't raise eyebrows by an LEO. However, if it's used in a legal setting like hiking, camping, or whatnot, then i wouldn't think that a little sharpened false edge would bother anyone. It's not your ultra tactical mallninja stabby knife. I could be (and probably am) completely wrong, though.

James?

Of the dozen or so that I've seen, three had a very sharp false edge. If you are worried about compliance, it is easy enough to dull it down.

The more recent ones are changing shape a bit, instead of a thumb rest at the end of the spine near the hilt, they have been made straight back. I would imagine this will be corrected, and of course, hand made blades are going to be different from one another.

A handle of at least four inches is my personal preference, for best utility. I think Dave Rishar ground a choil, or finger rest on one of his; he is a big guy with big hands.

Be well and safe.

Mine were not very sharp. Usably so, but nothing noteworthy. The clip on the first one was dead dull; on the second, it was also sharp.

JRK, my suggestion to you is to grab the nearest file and knock that false edge off before one of us rats you out. ;) The knife is plenty useable without a second edge.

Dang, what a shame. I'll be happy to take it off your hands. $35 plus shipping do it?

T. ;)

Mine has a razor sharp false edge too, but I'm keepin' it. Hope to give some field reports on it after hunting season.

I meant illegal to carry, not to own... As it is, it is a 'dirk/dagger'...
Funny, seeing as how the Bowie knife played such a part in our history, what with the Alamo and all...
