Vinegar-Question

I buy most of my gear from a company known as 'Farm-Lands' . I checked out three of their closest outlets the other day, I could not find a haft up to standard. Will just wait for their next shipment or look elsewhere. Couldn't bring myself to put an inferior handle in a good axe.

I've always admired those Australian patterns. Very nice piece. I've been tempted to order a few off ebay, but the shipping cost is outrageous.

By the way, I realize that you're a New Zealander. I know how you NZ'ers feel about being mistaken for Aussie's! ;) It would be like if someone thought I was from Montana! (bearhunter, that was for you!)

I have used the vinegar soak on a few pcs now, but have never been able to bring out the temper lines on any of them... Any suggestions on how to do that?

Bearhunter, I finally got the line to show on a sandvik that I grit blasted before soaking. It really stands out. However, I have been soaking a 4lb Mann along with a 2.5lb Collins DB for nearly 4 days without any lines. Could it be the milder temps not allowing the vinegar to work on the material?

I doubt that, personally. What kind of vinegar you using? Did you dilute it? Did you pull the heads out and scrub them with a toothbrush or scotchbrite pad or anything? Sometimes the "patina" or forced rust is so thick on there that you have to knock off the loose stuff to see the heat treat line.

I use white distilled vinegar from publix, and I personally do not dilute it. I havent taken the heads out to scrub them, which seems so elementary, I'm embarrassed that I didn't do tgis from the beginning. I will try this later tonight (so long as I'm not preoccupied with a Valentine agenda ;) ) and post results. Any info on how to post live from my phone?

To the OP, sorry for jacking your thread...

No idea, on the phone thing. The only thing I can think of is to buy a membership so you can upload photos directly to BF.
