Vintage Barlow Brands

My goal with this isn't to gather a bunch of Barlows to throw in a box and call it a collection.
My goal is to have about ten really good bone handled Barlow knives on display that represent some of the better ones our past generations would have carried. I'll be looking at higher end brands without repeats, repeats just sit in a box and collect dust. My display will have four rows... Top row will be my (3) GEC Barlows, Second row will be my (5) Case Barlows, the bottom two rows will be for (10) other brand Barlows, five in each row.

I'm sure it will take me quite a while to finish it off, but that's the fun of it.

An original Adrian Harris Colonel Coon barlow would be cool, but they're pretty rare. Later CC's were made by Queen and now Bear. The originals are worthwhile, just make sure it was made in Tennessee by Tennesseans.

I definitely have a Catt and a Russell on the short list. 🤠
Yeah, one of those Cats with the miniscule cursive bolster stamp would be great, John!:cool::thumbsup:
And I second Charlie's motion about a curved Barlow. In a previous post, someone had a photo of a curved Bulldog Barlow with "Tobacco" on the bolster; those are very appealing IMHO!:thumbsup:🤓

That's a nice one John. I'll bet it has a solid feel in the hand to it. The aluminum framed ones feel weird in the hand but manage to get most cutting done. Really nice covers on yours.
Thanks, ED. :)
Indeed, it is very solid, with a strong pull and hard 'snap'.
I had one of the aluminum framed ones, I ended up giving it away in one of my many GAWs.

A modern that is different is the KA-BAR as made by Canal Street with the copper bolsters - they take a nice patina. Knife has very nice action too. Bought this from a friend’s gunshop when they were released, he had a Trapper and a fixed blade too, (wish I’d bought all three). OH

JohnDF JohnDF , your thread has me wanting to carry a Barlow today; most of mine are still packed away somewhere, but this one was where I could grab it. A Boker USA 492 with sawcut Delrin handles, a second I think, as a rookie did the hafting on the Delrin handles and the bolster doesn't quite sit flat. But great W&T, a nice Spear main, and no worries about putting wear on a pristine collectible! OH
