Just finished this smaller scale Boy's axe...Put an old DUNLAP camp hatchet head through a light clean, polish and gun blue (rust inhibitor). Hung on a hand-carved, seasoned cherry handle and secured by a light walnut tension wedge. Overall length is 24 1/2". This is a one-off...my intent was to design a serious "first" axe for a young person or small woman...this is not a toy - it is sharp. The balance point feels just like a full size axe. Handle has a slight ovid cross section that indexes perfectly in hand. Mild fawn's foot end adds to the grip anchor....The wood is seasoned cherry from upper state NY, St. Regis Falls area....finish is two coats of hand rubbed original 'Tried & True'. A light-weight leather partial head cover is included. No disappointments...
