Vinyl liners

I was looking at the vinyl liners from trugrit and noticed they say to use CA and that it doesn't bond well with epoxy. How would this work as far as attaching it to a handle? I usually use g10 but I'm looking for a solid color instead of seeing the texture for my liners like you do with G10. Anyone using these?

Personally, I wouldn't rely (solely) on any kind of adhesives to hold my scales in place, ESPECIALLY with liner. Get a quality CA and give it a light coat (or even just a few dabs around the liner) and then use peened pins, corby bolts, or some other suitable mechanical fastener to hold everything in place for the long haul. The adhesive is more or less just a gasket to keep moisture out, as much as it is to hold things in place.

I should've clarified in my original post. I use Corby bolts on everything anyway. My question is, I normally use g-flex on both sides but I saw where it said to use CA and I'm not comfortable using it on the tang side or really either side.

I'd try a test piece and see how it holds up... maybe rough up the surface some.

CA won't typically hold as much as a good epoxy, but it does promote a pretty good bond. With the corbies, I image you'll be find either way.

With those liners you need to sand off the surface and use Quality CA such as TruGrit sells.

Epoxy will not adhere those vinyl liners, been there done that.

Use CA with those

Just for the liner to handle material or tang to liner also?

The epoxy will stick to the tang, and it will stick to the handle scale, but it won't stick to the vinyl. I suppose one option is to drill some holes in the interior space of the liners and create an epoxy "bridge", but you won't get any real bonding to the mating surface of the vinyl it sounds like.

More then one famous high end makers use CA glue for scales. Buy good CA like the bob smith from TruGrit and it works great and is waterproof and strong.

The liners have to be used with CA glue.

Proper surface prep is paramount with all adhesives

Just a heads up. A lot of hobby shops carry Bob Smith glue and epoxy. My local hobby works carries that brand.

I recommend

Insta Cure, it runs like water and great with capillary action

Maxi Cure, it is thick and spread nicely

Insta Set, to set immediatley

Un Cure, this is key to remove unwanted CA glue easy peasy.
