I took an extra set of VIP and gave them some UV exposure, followed by black dye treatment. I thought they came out well.

The scales spent a couple hours in direct sunlight. I used a full bottle of liquid RIT dye (little bit of salt and dish soap added). Scales submerged for a full hour at approximately 200°F.

Is VIP the same as crusty international micarta ?

They are both from the same raw material but crusty is cut from the outer portions of the micarta slabs that are showing some age.

Both MagnaCut.

Mine was too. Darkened it up a bit with some mineral oil.



When I get the ghetto grind version, gotta figure out if I’m gonna leave it as is, or swap the scales. Only keeping one.

I was thinking the same. But I’ll probably keep the ghetto edc as is. It is kinda like a special edition with the double black with blue screws. I went from never owning an edc to having 1 from Friday sale, the ghetto incoming, and one on preorder. lol. Im addicted.

The left one was sold to me as VIP and is very shiny.
The right one was described as “vintage” when I bought it and I believe is unbuffed as it is very grippy.
The middle one I just bought because it matched the one on the right but is a tiny bit shiny.
