Finally got to the range to really use this bow. I started at ten yards and was pretty much spraying the target but the groups tightened up very quickly, though a little high. As I got more comfortable I was shooting six to eight inch groups of six arrows at fifteen yards, though still about three inches high, within about forty minutes. That may not be very impressive but i was thrilled.

My friend, an experienced bow hunter with the most complicated looking bow i've ever seen, was in the next aisle shooting steady bullseyes at 25 yards. he tried my bow and was shooting worse than my first shots, not sure what that says about the bow. he broke two of his arrows, too. he offered me a turn with his bow but i didn't feel comfortable handling something so intricate and expensive.

seeing as i am a beginner, i enjoyed myself, and was pleased with the performance of the bow, I'd say this is a good, fun, first bow.

Stay the course, and accuracy will come. Traditional equipment will have its own rewards, and the skill you develop will be with you for the rest of your life.
Your friend has already been lost to the dark side of archery. He will spend the rest of his life seeking accuracy through his wallet. It will look good on the surface, but each time he hits a tough spot in his performance, his solution will be to BUY the latest widget, or laser, or Z wheels.

That's actually pretty good for your first outing. A hell of a lot better than I did my first time.

One advantage of learing the instictive shot versus using all kinds of sights, is you can NOT have to stand there at full draw (which gets real old, real fast with a traditional bow) waiting for an animal to appear from behind a tree or something. You camn draw and shoot very fast once used to it. Plus, IMO there's more of a sense of accomplishment learning on traditional gear.

Yeah, it didn't take long to realize that! my groups tightened up as my fingers became sore because i had no choice but to start doing this little 'look, draw, release' thing and the groups got tighter and closer to where i was looking, which was rewarding. accuracy also improved when i opened my left eye.

my forearm is in pain this morning. i lost my arm guard so i just shot without it.

They're pretty easy to make, if you can't find it, Mines an old piece of leather from a wallet with some bands of surgical tubing

Good for you....amazing. My first shot went right over the butt, but I was hooked. But at least now my regular practice sessions are at 30 yards hitting small 3 inch targets on a post, but this took me many years. God Bless to your archery endevours.

Congrats, not bad shooting for your first time. Rest your muscles every other day and don't shoot past the point of tired. Once tired, there is nothing being learned, but a whole lot being ruined, as far as muscle memory, hand/eye, etc.

Please don't take this the wrong way as I have no idea of your experience level.I just wanted to say take the time to tune your arrows to the bow.It will make a big difference in accuracy.

Rescue, thats what I aim for now does not mean I hit every time, just my latest standard...
You can get there, there is many top archers who can smack at it a bunch more than I could.

Thats an awesome goal TS...maybe someday for me right now I'm trying to get 6 in to a paper plate at 20 yards. once I got that licked maybe I'll move to one of those tiny desrt paper plates....but I guess I'll have to eat the desrt off first...(any excuse to eat cake) Thanks for the encouragement...I know it'll be a long journey

congrats the viper is a great bow... i know a few folks that started shooting with those as well....:)
