Viper 'Hug' - what a peach

Thanks Dave, I'm liking it quite well, just made a slip sheath for it using what's called milled leather, soft/flexible but allows you to emboss it too.

On your YouTube channel, I always am amazed at the super-tight belt sheaths that you make for your knives. The crescendo is the SNAP as the sheath "pulls" the knife into its garage. CLICK....

Thanks, it all depends on the contours of the knife to allow that retention level. This is a slip sheath so it's 'stealthy' but retains the knife very well and the leather is fairly thick, cushioning feeling so it protects both knife and what other items may be in my pocket at the time.

Thanks it’s a nice medium for slip sheaths but a lanyard is helpful to draw the knife

Had a fellow contact me for one in saddle tan with my Crusaders Cross embossing

I too like the M390 steel in an EDC pocket knife. I can’t believe all the handle options they offer for this pattern. I also like the blade profile. Ten years ago I would not even glanced at this knife, just shows how people change or evolve!

I'd recommend using that nail nick as opposed to pinch gripping the blade, not really enough real estate there, for me at least, to get a good purchase on the blade and just a few minutes ago as I was going to use the knife to trim some leather, I ended up shaving a bit of epidermis off my index finger pad, no blood ;) but enough to tell me 'hey that's not cool' And the knife worked exceptionally well trimming the leather that I needed to attend to, so, that's good ;)

My method of opening a stiff folder as safely as I can is as follows;

Thumbnail firmly into the nail nick, as far from the pivot end so as to gain as much mechanical advantage as I can.

Then, with my other hand, I will pull the handle away from the blade, while keeping my thumbnail into the nail nick stationary. Until it is at least halfway open then I will pinch grab the blade and open the rest of the way.

This way of opening you have more control, instead of trying to pull a strong blade out of the handle by your thumbnail, you keep the thumbnail stationary so it is just anchoring the blade in one spot, while you are able to grip the much larger part, the handle, and PULL the handle away from the blade. For me it works pretty good.

How would you rate the pull?
She's stiff! I would say a good 7-8, but I think with a little cleaning and working, it would drop to a 4-5. It doesn't sound gritty at all, but rarely do you flush one and not have something come out. But I will say the Viper's I have are as clean as any knives I have gotten.

A little late to the Hug party... I had an opportunity to order an original Birdie when they were still in stock and regretted not doing so. I think the Hug will be a suitable alternative.

Edit - decided on plain TI

Reading through this thread reminded me that this model existed. Just got mine in the mail yesterday. I can say without hyperbole that it's my favorite single blade slipjoint.
