virtuovice got a C.A.B.S!!!!

I didn't know who that was until I heard the voice. I've learned a lot about convex edges from his videos. Somehow I've missed his face in all the ones I've watched.

Great news!
I really enjoy his videos. They are very interesting. I wonder if he likes the cabs after some use.

I am a avid fan of virtuovice and had the pleasure of knowing him personally thru you tube. I watched all his video from hunting, knives field test, knives sharpening, knives reviews to trophy preparation. He even does reviews on how venison are cooked. Amazing guy. I believe he is off to another hunting trip with his new Busse.

Thanks Drossel for posting this video. Always enjoy his videos. As stated above, it's the first time I've seen his face also. I wonder how long it will be before we see his next new Busse video, and the next, and the next.....

Check in 4~5 days from now. He is usually quick in posting his field test and summary after his hunt.

For new viewers...here are the top FAQ that he is being asked all the time:

Hunting allowed in Japan?
Obviously yes however Japan have very strict gun laws. Hunting rifles license/ownership are given only after 10 years of shotgun ownership with good standing i.e.no criminal offense. They have to pass annual written test and psychiatric evaluation. Neighbors and family members are occasionally interviewed particularly on the gun owner's behavior.

The shotgun has a limited maximum kill range hence if not very common to see 1 shot 1 kill unless they were able to get really close.

Why take only the back strap, loin and head?
Hunting season for Sika Deer in Hokkaido is 5 months (ends in March), he bagged an average of 50~60 deers per season. The over population of deers in the island has started to cause massive destruction of forest and agricultural lands and a series of road mishaps. The government encouraged deer hunting to help control the population hence they have no limit to the number of deers per season though there is a daily limit of 1 deer per hunter each day.

What do you do with the meat?
He keeps some for his family's consumption (his wife is a good cook by the way), some for his friends and office colleagues. The remaining carcass left on the field are consumed by crows and bears right away so nothing is really wasted.

What do you do with all the trophies?
Check some of the videos - his walls are full of trophies! He is now into table top trophies since he is running out of wall space :p

What do you do for living?
Besides hunting :D he is a cardiovascular surgeon. But I believe hunting is his primary job :D

He camps and fish during summer - not sure if he is into duck hunting but his hunting buddies are.

Check out his video and enjoy. Very informative and as Drossel mentioned he videos are fun to watch. He is actually a great guy.

He has quite a few interesting comments on the small attributes of the CABS in use.

-I love that he calls it a combat/military knife. There is more that goes into a knife for fighting, combat, and hunting then just the image or the company it comes from. Though the front of the scales is not conducive to really comfotable choked up skinner, it is conducive for general safety in the primary grip.
-The sound of the knife hitting bone is likely because of the choice in handle material, the thinness of the stock, and the type of convex. Because it is thin and because the material is a uniform dense material (paper micarta vs. canvas), it transfers and creates sound better then a thicker stock with canvas micarta.
-The convex edge gives resistance because, like all busse edges I've seen on stock models, there is a lot of metal directly behind the edge. Busse does not use zero edge, they use blended convex. That means that the arc of the main grind is very acute, and the angle of the edge is obtuse by comparison, it is not a single complete arc, or even a smooth blending, the edge is totally distinct. Part of the reason for this is the steel, INFI holds an excellent edge, but do to his high maleability at thin cross sections, you want a bit more metal directly behind the edge then you would for something like d2 or s30v. While those steels don't have the same strength as infi at the same hardness, they have a greater ability to resist deformation at a thin edge. But, I'm not sure if he sharpened it before the video or not, I'm speaking of stock edges.

Bladebuster, Thanks so much for this explanation. I don't (not much opportunity) hunt, but watched that video, and though I was really impressed with his skill, was also really taken aback by how wasteful it seemed. To kill such a big animal, cut out the fillet minion and leave turned my stomach a little, not trying to offend anyone, it was just my initial reaction.

I even thought about putting together a new tread, just to see if that's normal.

I was reading a few replies and he said he works 2 days in the office and also helps out at the Hospital. He keeps plenty of time for hunting. I've seen a bunch of his videos and they are great. I'm subscribed so I see all his latest stuff but need a lot of time to catch up on the first 130 or so vids I haven't viewed yet. I like the cooking ones.
