virtuovice got a C.A.B.S!!!!

Bladebuster, Thanks so much for this explanation. I don't (not much opportunity) hunt, but watched that video, and though I was really impressed with his skill, was also really taken aback by how wasteful it seemed. To kill such a big animal, cut out the fillet minion and leave turned my stomach a little, not trying to offend anyone, it was just my initial reaction.

I even thought about putting together a new tread, just to see if that's normal.

That was my initial thought as well however Hokkaido has serious deer overpopulation problems that wreck havoc on agricultural crops, trees and causes road mishaps. With the absence of natural predator the sika deer population increases exponentially every year. Their government at some point engaged the soldiers for culling. If you bagged 50~60 deers per season I guess you will just have to take the prime cuts. The other reason Virtuovice explained was he goes deep in the woods to hunt and treks for a hour or so to get to the game, dragging the whole deer back to his car would be impractical as well. The irony is that they have less guns but unlimited deers and we are the opposite. I think I'll choose more deers :) Feel free to shoot him your questions - he is pretty quick in responding.

I do enjoy his video's. Not a lot of extra crap. No completely unfounded opinions (like some reviewers).

Just says what he has to say about the knife.

I do wonder about taking only the back straps and Head. I have seen him harvest another stag with taking just the head and back strap.

That is the tastiest piece, but I tell you, the jerky and pepper sticks you get out of a deer or elk for that matter, are the best part!!!!!

Even if you could not eat all the meat, you could find a place to donate it for food. At least here in the states, most places you can find a needy spot that will gladly take the venison.

not this thread, but the muk thread. if he gets that far I imagine he'll see this.

Isn't it forbidden to do anything with the meat but eat it and such? Like you can't give it away or donate it? Someone told me that is another reason they only take the best parts.

Here in the states, at least, their are many homeless shelters/soup kitchens/food banks that will take game. In fact, in some rural areas, they actually count on that venison come hunting season to give away for the holidays (i think it was). I was listening to a report on NPR and they were talking with some organizations (like the ones I mentioned above) in wisconsin and missouri (I think) who were lamenting the fact that because of the economy their was less hunting, and by extension, less donated venison. Also that hunters that usually donated were keeping for their own families because they may be out of work, broke, etc. due to the economy. Haven't a clue about Japan though. I'll probably get flamed for this (and I mean no disrespect to anyone, simply stating my personal opinion-not making a moral judgement on anyone else), but I'm pretty disgusted by that sort of behavior (not using whole animal) and absolutely nauseated by trophy hunting.

IIRC, he's been using more of it in his latest hunts where as in the beginning he was very specific in what he took.
