I just cleared my Email of virus alerts and some were replys to notices I did not send. I didn't open them and I haven't sent any so if anyone recieves a notice from me it's NOT from ME. If they were genuine warnings thanks guys. I didn't mean to be rude by not reading them.

99.999% of anything that is forwarded to you that says "forward to everyone you know" like virus alerts, forward-and-receive-money, etc. are nothing more than hoaxes. Go to www.UrbanLegends.com/ulz to see all the crazy crap that people believe and forward. You will probably find a lot of the ones you have received in the past. These are nothing more than e-mail chain letters, or just hoaxes in general. Apparently, some people just like the idea of making something up with the thought that so many people will get it because of all the other gullible (yes I looked it up;) ) people out there. In other words, if you get something that tells you to forward it to everyone you know, it is a hoax. Just delete it. If it is a story or something that you like, and would like to share, but it has something about receiving bad luck if you don't forward it to at least 10 people in the next 10 minutes, just erase that part before you forward it. Also, be kind and erase the mile and a half of previous e-mail addresses that show up before the story. In other words, erase everything except the story that you want to share with your friends. As far as knowing if virus alerts are for real, just go to www.norton.com or www.mcaffee.com and sign up for e-mail alerts. If you get an alert from them, it's for real. Sorry this is so long, but I get so sick of getting all the junk e-mails from friends that don't know any better.

I rcv'd this one today too and just deleted it. It was from J_PCrawford, with a zillion forwards under it. It actually screws you into allowing entry of a virus into your pc if you follow it's instructions.

Just got the J_PCrawford one also. Luckily I didn' t pay much mind to it. I hope simply opening it didn' t activate anything. Al?

I'm no computer expert, but on this one I don't think merely opening it will mess anything up.

Some are pretty nasty though. Just opening the mail activates the virus. You don't even have to click on any attachments. I delete anything from any address I don't recognize just to be safe.

And those damn Insta-Kiss things that are going around. Those are freaking annoying. They're trojan horse viruses activated by clicking on the attachment to see who "sent" you a "kiss".

Something to think about. If a virus is activated by just opening the message, not an attachment, then using Outlook or Outlook Express with the preview pane activated is just like opening the message. Just buy a good Anti Virus software like Norton, and update it regularly. Then you really don't have to think much about viruses. Mine works great, and has saved me a lot of trouble numerous times.
