Here is a easy, inexpensive way to keep from scratching blades when using a regular vise to hold them. I though some of you might find this useful.

I usually just take a shop rag or some paper towels and wrap the area i don't want to be damaged. Ive seen companies tha make rubber jaws that just slide on.
 
Some times you need something stronger than rubber but not so strong as to scratch things -use 1/16" annealed copper !
 
Wilton copper jaws work great on my Wilton vise. There is a vendor that sells 6" jaws on the bay for a very reasonable price.
