This afternoon Chris, aka knifemaker87, came over. I set him up with some carving wax and some tools. no one visits without leaving with some handle wood and some knife making goodies. Chris is a nice fellow and makes awesome knives...he brought some WIPs to show.

I was in the forge mood, so about 3PM I went out and picked up a bar of 1095. I forged a gut hook skinner I have an order for, ground it out, hardened it and it is in the oven for its second temper.

I'll post a photo after I come back from taking the missus' to dinner.

That young fellow has skill. I have been surprised at the level of sophistication of some of his knives.

yall are the reason i have any sophistication at all let alone skill!
i have learn so much because of everybody here on the forum!

and i wanted to thank stacy especially for all the help he gave.. and i can hardly wait to try that wood!

i got out into the the shop a little later (after some homework) and i fixed a wak blade i had broken into a bowie... (awesome hamon... i couldnt give it up) and i ground the blade for the folder. the spring isnt quite right yet.. but it is alot closer... and also.. i got to see what the hamon in the folder looks like.l.. i can hardly wait to polish it.

thanks so much for seeing me.. and i hope to see you again soon!

Yesterday I was visiting a knife collector buddy, and reflecting on how it is that knifemakers are generally so sharing with their skills and knowledge - not to mention their supplies! I don't think I've ever visited a knifemaker's shop without coming home with more stuff than I went there with, and having learned some new trick to make my work better and my life happier. I'm proud to be associated with a group of craftfolk like we are. So here's a general Thank You to every maker on this forum who's done so much for me and for everyone else.

Okay guys, so where are the photos of Chris's visit and Stacy's skinner? :D

No Chris photos. He is very self conscious about his hump and only having one eye.

Here is a quick shot of the gut hook blade.

I agree that Chris is amazingly talented.

Nice skinner! I'd like to see it when it's done, Stacy, if you feel like it. Chris, I'll take your word on the one eye. Do you ever wear a patch? Chicks love eye patches!

:D
