Visiting kami 20 inch Sirupati. Heavy duty. Save $30. Pix.

X-Head, how is the finish on the blade ?
Will it need any pollishing to make it realy shine ? How about the edge , just sharp or razor sharp ?
If you can't tell already , I have an itch, that can only be scratched by an 20 inch Sirupati.
Did it come standerd USA snail mail ?

Edd, although these were done by a village kami and not by the BirGorkha kamis, the finish is worthy of the HI mark. If it is not quite as mirror-like as my massive Sher Bahadur Ang Khola, then it is only off by a hair.

The edge is seriously sharp, but not quite razor sharp. It acts like it wants to pop hair, but it doesn't. It won't take much to get it razor sharp; it's almost there already. I'd like to point out, however, that the edge that is already on it is probably better suited for most applications, as a razor edge is not as sturdy, and more prone to rolling or chipping. FWIW, I'm keeping my edge like it is. It's more than sharp enough for slashing or chopping tasks.

It came 1st Class (I think), US Mail; well packaged as usual. All else I can say is, congratulations, Edd. You picked a real bargain for your first HI khukuri purchase. This khuk really is up to HI standards across the board, except perhaps for the handle fitting, which is decent. But the most exciting thing about this khuk is its super high Bang-For-The-Buck factor, which is thanks to our favorite uncle! Man, these deals I've been seeing here on these blems (verrrry minor blems at that--all stuff that's easily fixed at home) recently are probably more exciting to me than Uncle Bill's regular stock!

It han't come in yet ! It hasn't come in yet ! It hasn't come in yet !......

Sorry, I had to take my medicine . I'm muuuch better now, but ...... IT HASN'T COME IN YET!!!!!!!!

If it takes much longer we just might have another WACO Texas . I'll have a standoff with the local mail service until I get my khuk . How come when it's something you want it gets delayed or lost , but if its a BILL it gets to you a day early ? Do I have bad karma . What can I do to improve my karma ? I need some help here !

Edd, I live in a small town with one post office. It's mail is cancelled in Reno, where Uncle Bill lives. In fact if I mail a postcard to a box ten feet from the drop slot at 3 PM Monday, it travels a hundred thirty two miles to Reno, gets canceled, and sent back to Hawthorne ( for a 264 mile round trip )in the Tuesday morning mail and can be picked up any time after 3 PM. to move it ten feet!

One time though, Uncle Bill mailed me a khuk on Wednesday afternoon, and I picked it up at 8:25 AM Thursday ( our Post Office opens at 8:30 AM, but they took pity on me ).

But we all know what you are going thru. It'll all be forgotten when she arrives. She'll be worth waiting for. If you're a father, the La Maz breathing helps.

Do you have tracking number on sirupati that you sent me ? I suggest that you get a refund for your priority service .
Have you ever thought about UPS/FEDEX/AIRBORN express ?

That's the best thing about living in LA. I've received all of my khukuris within two days of Uncle Bill sending them out.

Edd, I just checked the shipping log and for some reason Vikash did not get your khukuri shipped until June 1. I'm not sure why and he is still sleeping (works at Hilton until 3AM) so I can't ask him just now.

At any rate, you should see it tomorrow and sorry for the delay.

Sorry if I'm pestering you , but I've had things "lost" in the mail and it was tracked all the way to Huntsville so some one has sticky fingers .
I would just die if something as precious as one of your blades went to such dishonerable people .

It has happened before, Edd, but I don't think it is going to happen in your case. The khukuri is fully insured so it is going to get into your hands or another of equal quality will sooner or later.

Khukuri FAQ

Uncle, could these 3 Sirupatis have been made by one of the same village kamis who were using the trident mark?

BTW, mine (the one in the picture) is fantastic. The balance, IMO, is perfect. The blade is absolutely flawless, seemingly beyond the limitations of hand craftsmanship. No visible hammer marks whatsoever, the entire blade is perfectly symmetrical, and the edge is 100% true (by that I mean that the edge is perfectly straight and inline with the spine--very important to me; I am very critical of this). The finish is as good as it gets without using the magic stone. The handle is a bit long, but this is actually a plus as I can choke up on my right grip and fit my left hand on the handle also, for a two handed grip when needed.

Uncle, is there any way you can pick Gelbu's brain next time you talk with him to find out who this bishwakarma is? I would LOVE to see BirGorkha hire him full time--not that you don't already have a shop full of top notch kamis. Perhaps Gelbu could keep him in mind if an opening becomes available.

X, thanks for report. Could very well be one of the 3 mystery kamis. Three came but only one stayed to work full time, Murali Dhar, and I'm pleased that he did. Ijust got a couple more of his khukuris marked with the trisul and he is a very, very capable kami.
