Edd, although these were done by a village kami and not by the BirGorkha kamis, the finish is worthy of the HI mark. If it is not quite as mirror-like as my massive Sher Bahadur Ang Khola, then it is only off by a hair.
The edge is seriously sharp, but not quite razor sharp. It acts like it wants to pop hair, but it doesn't. It won't take much to get it razor sharp; it's almost there already. I'd like to point out, however, that the edge that is already on it is probably better suited for most applications, as a razor edge is not as sturdy, and more prone to rolling or chipping. FWIW, I'm keeping my edge like it is. It's more than sharp enough for slashing or chopping tasks.
It came 1st Class (I think), US Mail; well packaged as usual. All else I can say is, congratulations, Edd. You picked a real bargain for your first HI khukuri purchase. This khuk really is up to HI standards across the board, except perhaps for the handle fitting, which is decent. But the most exciting thing about this khuk is its super high Bang-For-The-Buck factor, which is thanks to our favorite uncle! Man, these deals I've been seeing here on these blems (verrrry minor blems at that--all stuff that's easily fixed at home) recently are probably more exciting to me than Uncle Bill's regular stock!
