I was finish sanding a maple handled knife with a black G10 liner. As I was standing several voids in the G10 appeared. How normal is this? It's the first time I've seen anything like this happen.

I see that from time to time. I fill with a drop of thin CA and keep sanding. The swarf mixes with the CA and fills the void nearly invisibly.

I've not found voids in G10 (yet... knock on wood) but I have seen them in every other non-metal material. Like Stacy said, just fill with CA (superglue) and continue. If the void is deep or large as sometimes happens with stabilized wood, you may need to drip CA in there several times.

Not long ago I had one stabilized-maple burl handle on a chef's knife with so many voids, and they were so noticeable, that it took a couple days to get them filled up to where I could finish sanding the handle. Mainly because I applied just a drop or two each time and let it cure one "layer" at a time while I worked on other stuff. But that's pretty rare.

The problem is the voids are filled with resin. It looks like there was no matting. It's a solid void for lack of a better way of putting it.
