We need a place to post pictures and info about our Volunteer Knife Volunteer Knife models. I love these things. They are my new favorite fixed blades. My favorite is the 4.5 S-Grind. I have two. One rides in my truck and the other in the house. I also have a 4 with a modified handle and a flat grind. Ill get photos of that one later. Bart makes a fantastic tool! For now, here is my 4.5. Hopefully this thread does not already exist.

Let's get this thread kicking!

I just have a couple Volunteer knives. I have 2 Model 11s and one Model 12. They are great knives as the OP mentioned.

Also though, the customer service is excellent! Bart and Whitney are both great at what they do. Here is a pic of the Model 12 when I just received it.

Here is a Volunteer Knives prototype that I acquired from Bart. Its A2 at 60 with a gray coating. Seems like cera-coat maybe. Its smaller at around 3” blade. Didnt come with a sheath but the price was right (Thanks Bart!). Ill either make my own kydex for it or find a small leather pouch that fits it. The handle is comfortable and I really like the blade shape. If it was up to me to edit the design I would round the rear profile of the handle out and extend the scales to cover all but the lanyard hole. I guess Bart like to have the glass breaker/striker point on the pommels. On my 4.5 it flows with the design and doesnt seem out of place. On this one, visually it seems a little out of place, but ergonomically, you dont notice it.

ferider ferider Your second photo isnt showing.

How do you like the Saber-S grind? I thought it looked interesting so I gave it a try. Bart said he got the idea from high end kitchen knives and that It reduces binding when cutting. Naturally I had to test it and it seems so in the kitchen. I also cut up a bunch on 2.5” thick closed cell foam that we use for packing materials at work and the blade flies through it. The blade feels thinner blade than it is.

Thanks, Riz! Riz! - fixed the image.

I like the S-grind - like a hollow grind with some of it's advantages, but I don't have to worry too much about chips.

I may have one or two…..or three from the wonderful Bart & Whitney…

Very nice looking Coleman. I like the jimping / serrations in the scales on the ones in your pics. I have a couple Model 11s and a Model 12. The micarta scales are pretty smooth on all of them. I have been contemplating using a mitre box and lightly filing a few angled notches diagonally across the scales to help provide a little grip.

Can you post another pic of the one in the bottom pic please? Very nice looking scales on that one. Did you make them?

Was wondering the same, Sharp & Fiery Sharp & Fiery !

I will be able to post later today. :) I did not make the scales. Bart made those for me from some material I sent him. :)
