Volunteer Knife Thread - Show them off!

Well I hope everything is good with them. I wonder if facebook/IG sales are just easier and dont require the maker fee.

My thoughts as well. Hoping they are just so busy they forgot.

Two of my favorite knives:

Volunteer for me is like CPK a few years back.

And look what is in the mail for me :) Photo by Bill / @duramax :

How is the quality and how does the volunteer knife perform next to the cpk

I can tell you the quality on all four of my Volunteer knives is top tier. The finish, the scale alignment, the edge and the sheathes are all PERFECT. The heat treat seems to be on point as well. Mine have all come shaving sharp and held that edge well after a bunch of wood working for firewood prep.

I dont own a CPK, but obviously by the praises on the forums, they are also very very high quality.

It appears that they have their Maker Status renewed. We should be able to direct message them now.

You see…this is a tough question to answer.

CPK knives are excellent knives.
VKT knives are also excellent knives.

They are two totally different beasts and in hand feel is different, as well as how they act.

For what it’s worth…my Volunteer knives find themselves on my belt more often that my CPK’s.

But is that due to the price or the function? I've owned my fair share of $300-500 custom fixed blades but a few years ago I began noticing that everytime I went to the woods I was bringing my more affordable knives.

No, price isn’t a factor. I did purchase my CPK’s before the increases, and the secondary “explosion.”

I prefer handles that are inline with the blade and not canted downward. (I have DEK1 and an UF2 still) FK2 was pretty much inline, but too thick of a handle for my preferences.

Quality feels on par. The two knives are different in use though, due to different handles, the DEK1 is an SD compromise - very comfortable in reverse grip, less comfortable than the Volunteer in forward/normal use. I also like the glass breaker on the back. I have several Volunteer 4.5 in cars or saddlebags.

Thank you for so eloquently putting my thoughts into an understandable post. Lol.

You have a sneaky collection. We only see bits and pieces of it from time to time because you're tastefully humble about it... but one day you should really pose them all up for a single pic just for the flex ;)

I have 5 VK and 2 CPK knives. The ones I have are not the same sizes, so an absolute comparison for me isn’t possible. I will say that both makers take into consideration the knife geometry, use, and handle ergonomics really well. They are knives to be used and trusted. The fit and finish on all are excellent. They are as close to being perfect as can be (imho), and the makers are outstanding to deal with. I am absolutely thrilled with the knives I have from them, and could not ask for more. I will own more from both makers.

I’m afraid of breaking the internet. 🤣😂

On a serious note…Thank you for the kind words. I can neither confirm or deny anything about a “sneaky collection.” Lol.

I got into knives a long time ago and I am super picky with what stays and what goes. I definitely collect knives because I enjoy them and I have been super interested in ergos and workings since I was a boy.
I guess what I’m trying to say is…my collection has always been for the enjoyment of it all…not showing off.

I definitely enjoy seeing everyones acquisitions, what they use, and what they prefer. I also very much enjoy being part of the conversation or just contributing to threads for others enjoyment.

I am glad you have been happy to see parts of my collection over time, J.

And I just realized that this post is basically a thread hijack. I apologize to the OP. 😬

Carry on. ☺️
