I've read a lot of great things about Vosteed over the last 6 months or so, and I was just wondering if the hype is for real or is it just hype? They've been coming out with a variety of EDC folders lately. The Racoon is probably Vosteed's most popular offering, but they have quite a few others on the market as well now. Their newest offering, the Porcupine, is sold out nearly everywhere and looks interesting. Any thoughts on this manufacturer?

IMO, they're very solidly made knives with good fit and finish. I think their quality is on par with CIVIVI, but they have a more focused design selection and, IMO, some more creative and interesting design language.

I don't own a ton, as they seem to focus a lot on fifth pocket folders and I prefer mid to full sized knives, but the ones I've owned are extremely well executed.

Big fan here, I have one raccoon and two Thunderbirds. Solidly made and high quality and innovative designs. The customer service is great to deal with if needed.

They are fun fidget knives but also refined and useful cutters. I loved the older Civivi and find Vosteed beat them out for newer designs over the last few years.

Yeah, I have a friend of mine from school who said he bought a Racoon. I don't know if it's true or not, but he said it had the sharpest edge of any knife he has ever purchased. Sharp is a relative term, but who knows? He also said he cut himself 5 times already just fidgeting with it.

Once I had a Night Shade in my hot little hands and used it a bit . . .
over a few months I bought FOUR more.
I modded the blades on three of them to make " dream come true grails " and kept two of them stock.
EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM WAS PERFECT IN EVERY WAY !

What the hell does that mean ? :
Consistently seriously sharp all along the edges and the point.

Very useful edge geometry ; not too obtuse to where I would have to reprofile it to cut a zip tie.

Zero play and drop shut = still drop shut after I made one of the blades tiny ; similar in size and shape as a regular little exacto knife. I'm just saying . . .

Zero unfinished edges on the handle ; hell . . . most of the knives I get I have to file / debur the edges of the liners at the slot where the blade folds into . Spyderco I love you dearly but I am glaring at you buddy . . . e.g., two step milled Titanium Chaparrals bought years apart ( talking $400 each here ) . . . seriously sharp totally unchampfered handle edges . I could go on for an hour . . .

The Night Shades I bought :
Two silver gray
Two black and red
One green , black and gold

I may have another Vosteed or two but my point is CONSISTENT QUALITY AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL ON AN INEXPENSIVE KNIFE.
I have said it in reviews and I will say it again here :
I was willing to cut Vosteed some slack because they have only been making knives for a decade or so. After owning and using ( and using them hard ) many of their knives my opinion has changed.
I now feel / know from empirical evidence, that Vosteed could TEACH hundred plus year old knife manufactures how to make knives on a production scale .
!
A case in point ; find for us a Case knife with a decent , usable , somewhat sharp edge on it out of the box . . . no seriously . . . go ahead . . . I'll wait . . .
I must point out that I have over a hundred Case knives , every one I bought brand new ( about twenty five full size Trappers alone ).
I LOVE THEIR PATTERNS MORE THAN ANY OTHER TRADITIONAL.
The last Case edge that , out of the box ,was sharp , usable , and held up to use ( not heavily wire edged ) was on a Case Two blade Trapper in Genuine Stag .
That was about ten years ago.
If it wasn't so freekin' rare why would I be able remember it so far back ? !

Politics aside , isn't that what the moderators demand here (~~~) , Vosteed makes Great knives .

I've not tried one, but their top liner lock is interesting. The Psyop looks good.
Yes, indeed, the Psyop looks awesome. It's well known that I have a penchant and unabashed affinity for Elmax steel blades, my proclivities for which, are well-known and often lamented facts of Blade Forums lore. I even like Elmax blades even more so than many other steels that are supposed to be better. I have had unbelievable experience with Elmax, so I will definitely be on the lookout for one of these, but I don't know if the wallet will be compatible with my decision.

Wait a minute!!!!
Do they really sell an Elmax blade for under $200USD?? Gotta check out some Vosteed! I love Elmax for ease of sharpening and long edge retention!
Well, I researched more of Vosteed's catalog, and here is what I discovered: (1) it seems that the regular sized Psyop goes over $200 (cannot mention any retailers); but (2) the mini Psyop may be had for around $130; and finally, (3) I just purchased another Vosteed knife with Elmax steel called the Vosteed Ankylo (with Vanchor lock), and I just ordered mine for just under $170.

I'm super excited to get this knife in, and I definitely agree with you that getting a knife like this with Elmax steel for under $200.00 is really a good deal IMHO, especially when other knives like the Kizer Drop Bear with Elmax steel is going for near $220.00.

I own the new Shilin Cutter with the Vanchor lock. It has an Elmax blade with an aluminum handle, thumb studs, front and rear flipper. Very smooth and fast action, centering is perfect, locks up solid. I really like the front and rear flipper design, as it adds a sort of extended tang when locked open, seems like it helps keep it sturdy. No blade play. Have not had to adjust the pivot at all. This knife looks great, fit and finish are perfect. The black blade coating has a light stonewash to it, looks really cool. Bit small for my XL glove hands, but the lanyard helps with that. Overall, amazing knife, great quality and materials for the price. Plus, Vosteed has some very neat, unique designs that I really like. I would feel comfortable recommending them to anyone interested in their designs. IMG_20250125_094222937.jpg

I just received a Corgi and have been carrying it for a few days. Neat little knife. Mine's the collab with County Comm, with Ultem scales. Easy in the pocket, cuts stuff. Except for a little stickiness in the button lock, no flaws.
