Vote by Buck forum readers on sticky creation

Interesting comments so far, I have emailed Joe Houser and asked him to comment from Bucks view.

Impersonal action....I guess that depends on how you use this as your tool, after all it will just be a tool. If it should arise in the forum you would still address the person asking for help in a friendly manner and offer to continue to answer any questions they may have after reading sticky.

I believe that a sticky that is locked once it is fixed up correctly would be the way to go, if we even try this. I would think we would use the Buck web information as a map to build a sticky. Lets clear up what we are talking about. A How-To on sending in a knife for factory warranty consideration and a much shorter How-To on sending a knife in for the 'Spa" treatment. Facts are facts and costs are costs. Again we follow the web page. I think a well done piece would answer most all questions a person might have. Again, this not intended to take over the greeting and contact of a person coming to the Buck forum to ask about knife problems and repair, it is only a "tool" you would reference them to once it is determined they need to know details. With Joe's guidance I would suppect that wrapping a knife for shipment, addressing a package, discussing options and costs would be 90% of what this would be about.
Someone, could even take some photos on how to best wrap a knife and what type of packaging might be best. I started this discussion to see if we could fix something to "Help" you folks to answer people who ask for help. I was called to task not long ago for directing people to the search forum to find some answers. It was said that I should be going and finding the information myself and giving them direct links for their use. Well, here is idea that in a sense has personal contact methods and then could be used as a link for the information they need.

I look forward to Joe's comments, I asked him to be open with his comments. Again, we are discussing now, in the end 'you' forum folk will have final say. And it's only a sticky, not a college course.

I think it is a good idea. Post the info and lock it, doesn't need more comments in my mind.

That said, I would like to see some of the stickies be removed if possible. They take up a lot of space when I come here, I worry it may keep novices from scrolling down to see what is going on here, and I think some have lost their relevance.

I think a sticky is a good idea for warranty and spa work. If 300 and Joe Houser work out what they want to post, I think they should then lock it. Let it be a reference.

I think ohen cepel has a point with lot's of sticky's. Perhaps between the moderators and admins, they could be reviewed and possibly paired down.

I remember being new to the forum. I didn't know about the spa treatment until I figured it out in a few postings. I don't think I know everything I need to know about it. Some of the before and after shots would be nice in such a sticky.

I am hearing about 50/50 pros and cons here. What about just making a sticky with a title that will be easy for folks to understand what it is for and a just a link to the Warranty page on the Buck website. With a statement about using BKI to address your package instead of Buck Knife Industries and maybe a sentence or two on what is and how to do a knife 'Spa' treatment. Then we lock it down and call it a day. Then the first guy to respond to a new person inquiry notes the available sticky, says hello and come back anytime, has any other needed conversation and off they go. I don't think that is an impersonal reply.

But, waiting for Joe Houser to comment before anything is tried.

That sounds like the best way to do it.

Thanks Bert. How about this as a title....... Buck Knife Warranty Repair... (we will throw Spa info in at the end)

I did not address, my personal opinion on the number of stickies. Yes, I do not like a forum with a page of stickies. But, looking things over all I see to get rid of without causing a stir is maybe combining both date stickies on the 110 and 112s. That way 'if in the end' we make a warranty sticky the number won't go up. Otherwise who gets the boot ? Be kind.

Perfect !!!!!

I'll vote FOR the stickie.

Put in the relevant info and then lock it, like I did the Date code stickie.

That will keep it from turning into a discussion thread..

If someone still has questions, and they will, those can be asked and answered in a separate thread.

I think the sticky will be a service to the folks who come here with a Buck they want to have repaired. This is our place as collectors, but it is sponsored by Buck and they are in business to sell knives and to service their customers - if this helps Buck do that then it's a great idea. OH

Well said.

It's a good idea... But they always ask anyway... 9 out 10...

I never ever look at the stickies anyway to much BS... That's Just Me... :)

But again, if you put all the info on a STICKY, lock it...

I guess we can direct them to the sticky... ;)
