Okay, failing something unforeseen I’ve narrowed my EDC choices to three. Please let me know which one you like the most.

1.
Doug Ritter Mini-RSK Mk1 Folding Knife by Benchmade.
Basically a Mini Griptilian with thumb stud, Axis lock, drop point flat grind CPM S30V. $99.95 (www.equipped.org/rsk_mk1.htm)

2.
Spyderco UK Pen Knife
Plain Edge CPM S30V, thumbhole. G10 handles, low profile wire clip, Non-locking slip joint. $77.98
There are pictures here (scroll down a little): www.messerforum.net/showthread.php?t=22436

3.
Benchmade Mini-Griptilian 555S (black)
Modified Sheepsfoot Combo edge, 440C, thumbhole, with Axis lock. $53.12

Thank you.

if you are in the US, Uk pen knives are kinda hard to come by.

my rote is for the mini ritter grip.

If you can get a UK Pen Knife for $78 you should definitely buy it. And then tell me how to get one for $78.

Ritt, I found it here : http://www.policegearusa.com/c.cfm/12911.htm#UkPenKnife
As far as I can tell Spyderco is shipping the next batch at the end of the month. All the places I've found on the web are taking backorders and expect to ship next month.
You can find more by searching for the stock number #C94GP.

So your vote would be for the UK Penknife?

I say go for the Doug Ritter. I'd choose Axis over slipjoint and S30V over 440C, anyday of the week.

Wow, the concensus was that the UK Penknife wasn't going to be available in the U.S. Thanks for the link. So long as you don't need/want a locking knife the UK Pen Knife is a great EDC. The Ritter grip is quality as well, but some people don't like the scales, say they feel cheap. So, both the Pen Knife and the Ritter Grip are good choices, but they're very different knives, I think. I wouldn't get anything CE, just because I don't care for CE.

Hmmm... They all look the same to me, black plastic. But of the three I like the Spyderco's lines the best, but it doesn't lock. So that bumps up the Ritter to #1.

Good Luck,
Bob

The RSK, unless - like me - you're legally restricted to a slipjoint for EDC. In that case, the Spyderco UK Penknife.

I would say to go with either of the Benchmade's, unless you aren't legally allowed to carry a locking blade. This is especially true if you will be going with only one EDC, at least in my mind. A nice slipjoint can be a fine knife to have around, but in most cases a locking blade is more useful if allowed.

I like to carry a nice smaller slipjoing every now and then, but mostly as a secondary knife. It is more sheeple friendly and less likely to cause a commotion in a crowd. It will also fit better with dressier clothes, or when going into a place where having a folder clipped to your pocket might cause you some trouble.

You have identified 3 good choices. In fact, I have all 3, as I recently purchased a yellow RSK in S30v. Since then I have chosen the RSK it as my EDC due to its friendly size, axis lock, light weight, strong pocket clip and S30V blade. The Spyderco UK pen knife is a very good knife (I have sn# 15) however it has no locking blade, is heavier than the RSK and has a much lighter duty pocket clip.

Good luck with your search.

Cheers!

I would get The Ritter minigrip. Just because a site may have UK penknives listed or expect to get more, doesn't mean the will really get more.

If there truly are more penknives available, I would be happy.

I have heard only the best about S30V, as well as the axis lock, so based on those two things the Ritter grip is the best purchase.
