apologies for goofing this up ... lot going on..
this is now leading to development of questions for a poll to post in
the general discussion forum.. read post 12 for format pool can be in

If you could ask for only ONE new option from the Buck Custom Shop
what would IT be?
if you want to post and say if the addition of your top choice would influence you towards buying a custom shop knife.. please do so!

Trax is most likely correct, but perhaps I can vote a couple hundred times!!

Should a thread be posted in the general discussion and invite all those guys over to participate in the poll?

First choice is a 112/120
2nd would be choice of blades ... drop points baby.

My first choice would be to offer the 119 with various steel choices and handle options...but that's not one of the choices in your survey so I guess I'm not voting. :jerkit::o

C'mon Mike, you gotta vote; just like the election this fall, if you can't vote in favor, then vote against! Beside, we know you're a 112 fan; consider it your VP choice!!

Yup, steel choices for me, such as CPM 154 and CPM D2. Heck, even 440C would be welcome.

Only thing I would vote for would be D2, since it was mentioned. I have one D2 Buck and I believe it is the sharpest of all of them. But thats a thread drift....sorry Dave

I could use a 112 clippie in BG42, sambar, fg, no pins, NS, to match my 110.
But that would be all.

I'm with Mike...my first choice would be a raindrop dammy 196 in Elk, SB Stag, white Bone and Giraffe Bone. Last time I asked for this Buck screwed up and put the 193 in the CS by mistake...LOL

hay guys i think trax is right and that flat lander has a great thought
on posting in general discusson!!
OK so would you guys come up with some good questions?
what do you think should be choices .
the way the poll option works you can allow multiple choice or jest one choice
and only to 10 questions..
there is not way to rank as in 1st choice and 2ed and 3ed
with multiple choice 3ed counts as much as 1st..
and i am sure you guys would like to have
meaning full poll results to give to Joe or Sarah..

so lets have some question development here...

I actually voted for custom steel; but since it was a multiple vote, I also selected blade styles...(it only recognized the last choice)...

I'd say blade profiles on all & *lengths* for fixed blades; custom steels (1095 & D2 would be good additions); grip/scale material options (bring back Micarta!; G10; rainbow laminates; etc); sheath material; option to delete "custom" features (laser cutouts; etching; emblems; etc); more bolster/liner material options (stainless; Titanium)...

Interesting.

Pack rat's post makes me wonder.......would buck sell a BUNCH of 112s to people who wanted a Custom 112 that matched their Custom 110?

That alone might make it a smart move for Buck.

They'd have to bring back the BG-42 to match any of mine, though.

Just a thought......anyhow.....

My choices:

They need to make custom 120s available. I want one in elk and BG-42.

More steel choices and they need to bring back BG-42, of course.

They need to ditch the "Designer's Choice" stamp and stamp all Customs with a new Custom stamp incorporating the Anvil Trademark in some way. The stamp should be well-designed and several versions could be shown to the Collector's Club for a vote.

The dating problem could be solved by stamping a number ("9" for 2009, "15" for 2015 and so forth into the future). If they wanted to be really cool, they could use Roman Numerals.

The new Custom stamp (with date number added) on one side, BOS stamp on the other.

I would love to see more 110 blade shapes, but I'm more into the 110 than others.

May be of use to see if Buck has any parameters. No reason to put something in the poll that isn't feasible or is cost prohibitive (ie: ivory handled, damascus bladed 120's).

I also think if you're going to put it in the general forum it needs to be more for the general population. Don't think blade markings will mean as much/if anything to them. Is it designed to be for "us" or the general knife buying community?

Suggestions:
More sheath choices, maybe a kydex with the tacticool tec-loc on it
Custom leather sheaths from a popular maker with Buck markings on them.
Custom US made 300 series
More model choices from the CS in general, or maybe a model of the year that only last 1 year, would push some people off the fence
More blade shapes for the 110/112 line
Come with the "One Armed Bandit" on them or a factory stud
Thumb notches on the rear of the blade
Lanyard ring/loop
Pocket clip model
Ti frame
G10 and carbon fiber handles as a CS option

I think a "Gold Line" or something similar to ensure a higher quality/tighter tolerances would be a good selling point. Sort of like what Benchmade has done.

May be worth it to post a question in the general forum; "What would make you buy a Buck?" Could get some great feedback there to then put into the poll.

Also, would love to see a mini "110" about 1/8 the full size model, but that's another topic.

Interesting.
(I) wander, would buck sell a BUNCH of 112s to people who wanted a Custom 112 that matched their Custom 110?

wow Rocinante.. i think you may have hit on some thing here ,
(( some one pinch me to be sure i am awake!))
in one conversation at post falls some one said:
matching knives was some thing to consider.
... humm.. thought it was in response to my saying i let 'sway have all my 112's including the ones i got as matching my 110's and in relation to collecting but if you order you are collecting!
BUT what a thought ..
matching steels and handle material...
to be able to order a 112 ... then later order a matching 110 ... later add a matching 119-120 !?!?
(gee does an inch really make that much diff?;) )
all from the custom shop!!
NOW that is a question to ask !
if it was available to do so..
would you order matching knives from the custom shop?
if so at the same time or one at a time...?
would a limited edition 'matching set' be a thing you would order?

now to do devils advocate..
how expensive would a 120 be with Koa or ironwood?
with s30v or bg42?
the sheets of steel they use are 2x3 FEET!
the 112 had never sold like the 110..
but the notion of matching sets? would this boost sales?

mark this down youa'l!
yep finely! me an doc agree on some things !!!
ditch the "Designer's Choice" stamp for a unique shop stamp &
roman numbers for year marks! ra ra ra ra and hip hip.. i like it !!!:thumbup:

Yeah, well......don't get orgasmic.......you probably won't agree with me again for a decade or so.

:D

Yeah, we rants and we raves and sometimes we comes up with a good idea, huh?

Go Buck.......I will buy 120s in BG42 and .......elk......KOA......desert ironwood.....and any damn good imitation ivory that looks good.

That's already probably over $1200 worth of stuff and I'll be ready with the credit card number today if they want to take me up on it.

BG-42 stamped on the blade like they did with the 110s and the new custom stamp with Roman Numeral date on one side and the BOS stamp on the other.

After that I'll start on getting 110s and 112s to match the 120s.

In Roman Numerals.......2009 could simply be done with a 9....which would be IX.

In 2013 it would be 13 or XIII and 2018 would be 18 or XVIII .... or would that be IIXX?

Idunno......maybe Roman Numerals would be too complicated.

:D

I think so, too. But there's no reason not to use letters...Say, for 2009 use the 9th letter of the alphabet, I...for 2010, the tenth letter - J...etc...

Gotta be cheaper for Buck, too - those oddball steel roll stamps can't be cheap... ;)
