Voyager xl is it to large?

I carry the xl Bowie one everyday for a dedicated personal defense reasons and find in some brand of shorts it's almost to long, but no prob with any jeans on, I usually pair it with a spyderco stretch or my benchmade 710.

I just recently bought a new model voyager tanto XL. The blade deploys very smoothly and easily and the fit and finish is excellent. I really like the overall look of the knife. My only quibble is the pocket clip. It's just too tight. I'm going to have to take the clip off, put it in a vice and bend it a little. I've already had to do this with the large Espada and the XL Talwar clips. The differently designed clips for the XL Hold-out and XL Counterpoint are fine.
I'm getting the XL voyager vaguero next and I'm sure I'll have to adjust that clip as well. Luckily for my wallet ,I don't like the clip point voyagers so I won't be getting the XL version of that model.
Yea I've heard that the clips were very tight causing the scales to eat up your pocket

Many will probably find the Voyager XL too big for EDC; however, it's a great knife for the woods and heavy utility tasks around the garage or yard.

But do you really need a practical reason for buying it? Just go for it. It's an awesome knife.

Bought an xl several months ago and it's the only one that seems sufficient in size for edc. Everything else is a backup knive.:D

I carry the Kershaw Blur Black Glass Breaker for work and the Cold Stone Voyager XL Clip Point Combo Edge everywhere else.

The Blur is mainly for small cutting jobs and as a safety tool, should shit hit the fan.
The Voyager XL is my new go to tool for everything else. I love the size and the solid build.

the X2 is one of my EDC blades. Not too big, it only became my EDC when the NIB 5" voyager i pulle dout of the safe to replace my other 5'' voyager ( clip broke, old style) was a bit tight to do the brownie pop, so the 6" was called to action, and has just remained a carry knife.

No, neither are too big, if you want to carry them. if they make you uncomfortable, then don't.

Remove the clip and sand down the scales . That what most people seem to be doing

I used a ball shaped grinding stone on a hand drill and zipped off what was needed, just under the clip contact. For anyone not being able to handle an XL before buying...... The XL's are big and I mean REALLY BIG. They are light as a feather and mostly disappear when clipped into a pocket.

Mine never leaves the yard as it's probably too big for the Demokratik Peoples Republik of Maryland, and I really don't need to carry it. When I go out in the woods with my camera, I take a small fixed blade (RAT-3, Fallkniven F1, BK-11) and some small folder. I don't want to have to explain a 5" folder to the Dept of Natural Resources police when I encounter them.

ACTUALLY, you're more likely breaking the law carry those small fixed blades (if they're concealed in any way). MD doesn't have a restriction on blade length for folders that are not auto's, i.e. 'Pen Knives'. Though there's are couple exceptions with some local ordinances.

I've carried a XL Clip Point Voyager quite a bit and currently have a Hold Out 1 in my pocket.

I recently received a Voyager XL Clip point combo edge for a late birthday gift from a friend. It's one beast of a knife, it would make a great conversational piece with people (an other reason why you should get one :D ) I been carrying it in my waistband of my jeans around downtown of my town, and in my pocket at home. If you do carry one for primary defense, might I suggest you carry a small folding knife to be a companion to your Voyager XL? For both cases of carry, I had a Mini-Tuff Lite in my pocket watch pocket to handle edc cuts.
But I do suggest you get a Voyager XL. Great knife.

XL on top, large below, with added size references. I wear an XL glove.

Yes the XL's are really big. To be honest, the four inch large Voyagers are probably the most practical to carry and use, day to day. I suppose that too big is in the eye of the beholder, or user.

It's only too big if you're the opponent facing it!!

I have the Voyager Clippoint XL Combo blade and have the Tanto version in the mail.

i ended up buying the voyager xl tanto and a clip point code 4... both amazing tools, so far the code 4 has been in my pocket daily sense i bought it, the slim size makes it disappear, i have stopped using my regular daily carry which is a benchamade barrage because the code 4 has just been a great fit. as far as my original question about the XL being to big.. well now that i have one yes these things are almost comical, LOL but its a great knife to keep in the truck, i live in Arizona and carry a concealed firearm for protection, i dont see myself ever wanting to rely on just a blade for self defense but if shit hit the fan im pretty sure the voyager XL could hack off some limbs

Ya :D, The four inch large are basically only what I ever really use in the real day to day world.

4 inches is a good everyday size. I have the XHP Recon in my pocket at the moment and it's like it's not even there. Light as the XL Voyagers are, there's always an awareness you have a big lump of steel in your pants.

im carrying my XL today at work, to be honest it fits in pocket pretty well, but its definitely not practical for daily use, everytime i take it out to use it i almost feel like laughing LOL
so far my favorite cold steel for EDC has been the code 4
