I just got my first vulcan folder and its by far one of the best quality knives ive added too my collection very very happy got my dad one for christmas , sog for life baby......love it...!!!!

Did you get the Vulcan mini or full size? I don't own any SOG knives but I really like the looks of the Vulcan, but I was thinking it might be too big for EDC. What are your opinions about the size, blade sharpness, ease of deployment and the axis lock?

Bro, when it comes to knifes, I'm not an expert, but I do know what's good for me personally. I only have song's, but I have handled alot of folding knives (benchmades, spydercos, kershaws etc.) from 10$ to 200$.

And Vulcan is got to be the best for it's price I've handled, it also outclasses many higher priced ones.

The handle, it's perfect for my hand, many say that zytel is not good, but for me it is, I get good grip out of it, I could trust my life for that grip.

Blade, what can I say, I have that tanto blade, and it just bad ass looking mofo, all the curves etc on that blade makes it the nicest blade I have ever seen, it came razor sharp out of box, it shaved my arm hairs just like that.

Blade deployment is great, with flipper (if you practise wrist little bit) its as quick as most automatics, with stump studs its easy but not as fast as with flipper. Opening with arc lock is just pure fun and again really fast. Closing I do mostly with little wrist movement and it takes split second to get closed.

All and all, great knife and you can't go wrong with it.

Answer to your question, no full size is not too big for edc, I edc it all day everyday :)

here's my modified vulcan - skip to 5 minute mark.

Bro, that's one bad ass looking Vulcan. I mean damn. What material you used for new handle and where to get it? Too bad you live in USA, otherwise I would of send you my knife and fair amount of cash and you could of just made me one :) but, I live in Europe, and I really don't trust postal services, too daMN much lost packages over the years

Well that's not my youtube channel. It's the youtube channel of a knife pimper called tuffthumbz and he can mod your vulcan if you wanted him to. The handle material is g10. He added some jimping and made it easier to use the flipper and thumbstud which I think are problems with the knife to begin with.

It is a smaller flipper. I really liked it until I got a G-10 Bump, now it feels a little small. I actually like the vulcan better though, the bump's too heavy. This may actually be a decent reason to go FRN instead of G-10 I guess?

Thanks for the opinions on the Vulcan Wolf. I went ahead and ordered one and it should be here any day...can't wait, I Got the plain blade instead of tanto.. like tanto blades but don't like to sharpen them.

I'm sorry, but even though you tried not to show your ignorance or the lack of understanding of Folding knives, I can still see it.

And to add, I do have a Vulcan. I dislike it because for the same or lower price, I can get something else I prefer which has better fit and finish along with more premium materials.

Seems like a pretty 'ignorant' and unwarranted attack on a forum member that is just giving his personal opinion.

Which prompts the question, why did you buy it in the first place?

And to add, I also have a Vulcan and another on the way, because it has as good or better fit and finish as many of my Spyderco and Benchmade knives. Aren't opinions grand?

For what its worth...its a very beautiful blade and a nice looking knife, but the handle leaves something to be desired. It is difficult to operate the thumb stud and the flipper, and the handle is too light weight and makes the knife blade heavy.

+1 ^^^ Yes an unwarranted attack and on a new guy no less.:thumbdn:

Insulting, or appearing to insult, a poster doesn't usually lead to positive results and adds little to discussing the knife.
And yeah, calling someone ignorant, when they are stating THEIR opinion is personal and insulting.

The modded Vulcan in the vid may have led to Sugawolf's enthusiastic remarks about the Vulcan, which might be slightly overstated for a stock one. :D
I haven't handled a Vulcan, but it does look nice. IIRC I decided to avoid it after I saw some comments about the blade tip causing some folks problems when closed. That and the thumb stud being a bit too close to the handle (which that mod seemed to fix nicely).
But some of these comments have me thinking about giving it a look for myself.

Was wondering that myself. Or maybe, why does he still have it?
I've purchased numerous knives I came to not like for one reason or another, and I got rid of them.

Well, voteing with your wallet seems a pretty positive statement.
Maybe you can send me the one you like less so I can check it out. :D

Well, I already had answer to this, but my wife dec'ided to close page when I went to cigar.

Who are you to question my knowledge? My knowledge is enough to tell me what I like. if most peoples prefer bencmades over this, fine. But it doesn't mean I have to. In my opinion I prefer this over same price benchmades.

The grip is great to my hand, who knows, maybe designer has same size hands as mine since all sogs I have handeled has been great to my hand. And even tho, I only own few I have handeled many in stores.

And to that my friend, you or no one else should have anything to say about.
I'm not questioning you're knowledge if I disagree with you.

That kind of attitude just drives new members off from this site,

You are no more expert than I am, we all like different things.

Like old Finnish saying goes: "someone likes mother and someone likes daughter"

In this case, I'm the one who likes daughter (as long as she is over 18) ;)

And thanks to all who stand up for me

And sorry if English is bad, I speak Finnish mostly :)

I bought the Vulcan shortly after it was introduced. I found it to be a bit large for me to carry but I really liked the design and the VG-10. I purchased the Mini-Vulcan when it was introduced. I like it better than the Vulcan (size wise). I EDC a number of knives via a non-systematic rotation. Lately I have not carried any SOG blades, but I might carry a Mini-Vulcan, Twitch II or XL, or the Access Card 2.0. I like all of these SOG folders.

This is all everyone needs to see to know what kind of experiences you have had with knives.

Surely "best for it's price I've handled" gives you a lot of room, but you said it outclasses many higher priced one without giving one example.

Maybe it's just me, or maybe you meant you've found the best knife already in this very vast world

To every sog fan out there who browse this forum frequently, you have seen or noticed the thread I made a half year ago in this sub-forum

I've taken apart the Vulcan and posted close up pictures of the "superb fit and finish" everyone here raves about. The pictures can prove how it is absolutely not on par with other brand names. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/842880-Sog-Vulcan-problem

It's going to be hard or even impossible to change a SOG fan. One day you'll realize that there's better things out there than what you have and have had. We all progress albeit at different rates.

Like I'm supposed to member what knifes I were handeling when I purchased Vulcan?
My budget was 200€ and I pretty much handeled 30-40 different knifes between 100-200€, and from all those it was Vulcan that ended up home wit h me.

So when it comes to that, of course there is better ones, there is always. But I even tried few benchmades around 200€ and in my hand Vulcan looked/feeled better.

So yeah, it is indeed very best I know that there it in its price range that are available in Finland and near me, cause I wont drive 200 miles to bigger knife shop.

When it comes to steel, sure there would of been much better choices, but i prefer look/feel anyday before steel. And I'm pretty sure that vg-10 San Mai is capaple doing any task I need it to do.

When it comes to that, what you said about opening it, no matter. I have no need open it, and it looks as good finishes outside as any other knife. Mine does fit perfectly, no blade play at all to any direction.

And hey, you can't deny that Vulcan looks better than 98% of other knifes.

Case closed.

I received my Vulcan last week and so far I really like this knife. My first impression after opening was "what a cool looking blade". Now I am far past the age of purchasing things based on coolness factor but this blade looks cool. The handle seems solid and the grip secure. Also, love the deep pocket clip, comfortable and light to carry without without showing everyone you have a blade in your pocket.
The deployment is quick and easy, in fact, because of the clip orientation I was able to pull it from my pocket and deploy faster than my Kershaw blur. As for the flipper, I found it mostly useless except for grip purposes when open. I found when using it to open the knife I had a number of false starts.
Anyway, that's my uninformed opinion, this will be my new favorite blade until my next one.
