Havent posted anything for a while. Thought I would share this. Hope to get this done for a local customer as a Christmas gift for Her Son.

I started with a 1.5" x 2.5" round of W-2 and beat on by hand till I gave up and had Deb hold it while I beat on it with an 8 lb sledge. Gave up on that and was bailed out by Burt Fosters' aid in using his press to get it squished out. Thanks Burt!

W-2 is a great steel to work with. Files and grinds wonderfully after forging. Not like some other steels that seem to harden when you dont want them to.

After I get this done and a dagger that I'm working on , I think I will be laying down my hammer for while. Just cant do much any more without being in terrible pain. I've seen what can happen to folks that keep pushing with the aid of pain meds. Dont want to end up that way.

Sad to hear that the pain has made working impossible. Maybe the pain will lessen if you give your body some rest. I like the hawk, it's a great symbiose of old and new.

Mark, Glad you didn't give up on it! That W-2 in chunk style is real tough to move by hand, with or without the wife's help. Looking forward to seeing it completed!

Mark, that's a very neat hawk head. I look forward to seeing the finished package.

I'm sorry to hear things have gotten bad enough to set the forging aside. I sympathize, having gotten to that point this past spring. It is a tough decision to have to make, but comes a time when it's the right one.

You made this from a round bar?
I have absolutely NO idea how you turn a round bar into this hawk head? I would not know how to start, and it seems a LOT of work to get it so perfect.

Awesome work Mark!

As for forging, we just need to get that Bradley up and running and with the right dies you'll be be ready to rock-n-roll!

Can't wait to see this one done.

It would be nice to get the Bradley going.....Spring maybe.

.....I'm going down for bit , but not out :) .....

I'm sorry I misread what you were saying, Mark, and that you plan on getting back to it!

I hope some rest heals you up well and you can come back to it with a refreshed body. :)

Great looking hawk Mark. Really do like the style. I hope you get to feeling better. We will keep you in our prayers. You just take it easy for awhile.

Great looking hawk Mark.

Hope you can recover quickly and get back to it.

If you need any help getting the Bradley going let me know.

Take Care
Charles

Sorry to hear you are down for a while. I got those dies. You just need to measure them again so I can mill them to fit. Maybe we can get a little get-together and get that hammer up and running this spring.
Oo.... Nice Hawk.

Larry

Great looking Hawk Mark  Is that a bowl I see ? A pipe hawk ?

I hope you get to feeling better too, it really sucks to hurt !
