A very distinctive W-2 tanto blade mounted in Black Walnut and Black Linen, with some copper and a bit of black leather. Comes apart for inspection and cleaning.
Available with or without the leather wraps on the saya.
I will supply both the carbon fiber and black linen tsubas with the knife.
The handle and saya are a three piece construction: A 9/32” ( .7 cm)thick black linen laminate spacer sandwiched between some nicely figured black walnut with some chatoyance on the saya. The handle was epoxy embedded to ensure a tight fit. There is no play when assembled. The saya is also a nice tight fit, held securely in place with friction. I have rubbed in a nice beeswax finish on the handle and saya, which the photo flash and scanner have bleached a bit.
Habaki and spacers are made from copper, with a black linen tsuba (fingerguard). Black leather wraps on the saya. A brass pin holds it all together. The take down pin hole in the handle is lined with thin copper tubing.
W-2 blade was forged, ground, clayed, heat treated and polished by Chris Moss (knifemaker87) It has a very active hamon. I further hand rubbed the blade with progressively finer sandpapers stopping at 2000 grit. I etched the blade with hot lemon juice. I tend to like a bright polish with just enough etch to highlight the hamon, but this one seems to look much nicer with the dark, bold etch.
Approximate Measurements:
OAL in saya: 11-1/8” (28.3 cm)
OAL out of saya: 10-5/8” (27 cm)
Blade length with habaki: 6-3/16” (15.7 cm)
Blade length without habaki: 5-3/8” (14.3 cm)
Handle length: 4-1/8” (10.5 cm)
Max handle width: 5/8” (1.6 cm)
Min. handle width: ½” (1.3 cm)
Handle and saya height: 1-1/4”
Max saya width: 13/16” (2.1 cm)
Tsuba: 1-5/8” x 1-7/8” x 3/16” (4.1 x 4.8 x .5)
Price for this one is $off to raffle$ with domestic shipping . I will be happy to discuss overseas shipping. Paypal preferred, but I will offer a 3% discount if you pay with a money order.
This will be posted on multiple forums, so an “I’ll take it” posted in this thread, followed by a PM or Email will be the best way to hold the knife until we can make payment and shipping arrangements.
Thank you for looking. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, etc. Even worse pictures on request.
Warm Regards and Happy Holidays
