I remember reading some time ago that Wayne Goddard had reprofiled a Trailmaster improving its slicing and cutting ability.

Does anyone know what specifically Wayne did?

Sure would appreciate the info!

Bob-

Goddard took the way too thick Trailmaster and slack belt convex ground it from spine to edge with a zero grind, or no secondary bevel. (unlike your Spy Moran)

Anthony,

When he reduced the thickness across the board by belt grinding, didn't he ruin the heat treat and have to retreat the blade as well? Or did he use slow speeds to keep the temperatures down?

I have seen it done real slowly, quenching the blade in water intermittently.
No re-heatreating needed.

Anthony,

Sounds like this might be something I could try at home then... or isn't it recommended for novices?

I wouldnt recommend trying this at home unless you have a good slack belt sander like a Bader grinder or another pro setup and varying grit belts.

I would look for a maker that has expertise with a convex edge. Usually its a forger that
has the know how to do it, because it is a Moran style edge.

I have one reprofiled like that. The work was done by maker who was a former Black Jack employee. SO needless to say he knows how to Convex a knife. Boy what a difference it makes too! It is way to think and way to heavy the way they come from Cold Steel. Mine is Convexed with a distall taper and some file work on the spine.
