hey guys,

I thought I would post this little guy here first, it is my first in this style, I have actuly made it for myself, (very rare I set out to make one just for me)

it is my first scandi/bushcraft grind( even though it was done with a file)

I still have to attach the handle slabs and sand them down abit plus make a sheath , I used 1075 steel heatreated in my newly build barbaque forge, and dyed stablized giraffe bone handles, I wanted something I could wear as a EDC and not look like rambo. It is 6 3/4 long with a 3 1/4 blade, 1/8 thick.

I will post some pics after it is all finished up.

let me know what you think.

It always amazes me how many people are able to make their own knives - and how well they do at it. The knife looks awesome and like it would be great for bushcraft.

Its pretty. Did you make a sheath?

Jimi!
Love the knife, love the concept!:thumbup:
This seems to be a popular theme lately and your rendition looks like a little gem. It suits the idea of having a "bushcraft-capable" knife handy, regardless of the situation and the features look very accommodating to the hand and ttpical tasks. I designed a couple recently, the blades of which were made by Bryan Breeden, JK (aka "Stomper") has one, Kaleb Reynolds has one in the works I am dying to get my hands on. The closest I came to seeing something like this until recently was Matt L's "Short Kephart," which itself is no slouch in the catagory.

I see some things in yours just a tad different. Of course, they are all "different" but there are similarities across the conceptual line. I like the belly in the handle toward the butt and can imagine it being a good move toward making the smaller handle "handle" better than a simply abbreviated version of one on a larger knife. That's a hard one to get right but I bet your handle contributes to comfort and control.

Sorry to prattle on so but I get very excited about blades borne of this particular idea. Nothing at all against the larger knives and there are plenty of highly capable smaller knives but you hit on some key features that really appeal to my narrow tastes and preferences. I would love to see more of this knife. Great "first place" to post that one! Thank you for doing it here.

Thanks guys for all the great feedback.

I made this knife because I wanted to try out this style of grind, and I just moved and hadn't set up my forge yet, I had the urge so I cut a peice of steel grabbed a file and had at it, I had the scales kicking around forever,

I made the mistake of showing the wife when she came home from work, and I quote" You made me a knife? I love the blue handles" so I think I may have to make another...

for anybody starting out , I made this little guy with a file, sandpaper and a drillpress, I prefer forging blades thou. I thremal cycled during heat treat and double quenched double tempered ,

Now I have my forge set up its back to the primitive, :D

thanks guys I post some pics when done, hopefully this weekend.
