Greetings Fellow Knife Lovers,
I am here to tell you that Newt Livesay makes one wicked blade.I am the new proud owner of a Woo neck knife. The knife is a great carry piece. The parkerized finish is an even rich color. the kydex sheath is on of the finest I have seen. The Woo is good and sharp, the polished edge will suprise you if you run your finger down it- I've got the smooth clean cut to prove it:eek: This is the second Livesay neck knife that I've purchased- I'll be getting a few more. I have an Uji fighter on back order. I'll speak on it when I get it. My next one after that will be a Company Knife. Any of you folks had any experience with Newt and his blades,if so give a yell.
Tip of the Bayonet,
BWali

I live pretty close to Newt. Great guy in my experience, great tools as well.

Lord willing, I'll be getting a double grind 3/16" thick Woo with Micarta scales and an IWB sheath soon.

Best regards,
Clayton

Hey CH,
Thanks for the reply. I am sitting here fine tuning my Woo with the DMT hones. Newt is the MAN!

Hey Mike 990,
Thanks for the reply. Do you or any of the other Livesay Users have any of Newts other neck or other blades?

I have a few Wicked Knives. As far as necks knives go, a few Woos, a Ti Woo, a 6 Knife, and a custom double grind Ex Woo in ATS-34. I you like the Woo you'll probably also like the Bushi. For concealed carry the cord wrapped Bushi in an ITW sheath is a good knife. The Air Assault is a good general utility knife. If you like Bowies you might want a Sandbar Bowie if you can find one. It is very light and fast for a knife its size.

Hey Benjamin Liu,
Thanks for the reply, and the advice. I saw the Sanbar Bowies after they were out of production:( I hope that Newt will consider making some more of them ,and the Ells knife. By the way- did you or any of the other Livesay fans get an Ells knife- or have any pics or further info on them?

I think he had a few Eels knives ofr sale at one time. IIRC this knife was never in general production but was part of a government contract. From the pictures I saw they looked like daggers that were bent more than an Uji. I think Newt did make a second run of Sandbars or was planning to. Right now he is really backed up.

Hey Benjamin Liu,
Thanks for the info. I have an Uji on back order at this time. I can't wait to get it.

Livesay knives! I have two Woos, an SOP, an Executive NRGS, a non-metallic NRG, two Sixes (I am honored to say the knife was named for me!) and a U.S. Marshal. I'm sure I'm forgetting something. I have sold or given away a half dozen Woos and NRGs to friends whose lives mean something to me.

Newt is also a cool dude.

Hey Jim Six,
I appreciate you responding to my post. I am just getting started with my Liesay collecting. I am very impressed with his work. If he offers the Six knife again I am getting one!

Hi Clayton!
I have 5 Woo's, 2 Nrgs's, 2 LP's,1 dbl ground Woo, I have the 2nd Company knife made, a Bushi, an Uji, and a flock of others, you get the idea. Newt is a really good guy and makes a really good knife at a good price. I will be very happy when production starts again.

Hey Clayton,
Thanks for the post. I hope to build a collection of Wicked Kinves like that:D

I have a Wicked neck knife. It's a clip point blade chisel ground with some weird number/name. It was the pick of 5 of its kind at the local gun show, but it still had a thick grind. Got dull real fast. It was a bear to sharpen, grind was too thick. 1095 steel for a neck knife was a real stupid choice on my part...the edge rusts within the time it takes to mow my yard. Yes I oiled it, yes I used tough cloth, it still rusted in a heartbeat during use.

However, I also think the heat treat must be bad on mine, it won't keep an edge worth a hoot. The flats are real hard, so it's hard to profile, but it won't keep the edge through light kitchen duty. I bought it for yardwork and it certainly doesn't make the grade there.

The kydex sheath was originally so tight it hurt the neck when removing the knife one-handed. However, the kydex ripped on the fold after only normal use...no hard use. Now it slips in easy.

As with all Wicked knives, it was cheap. I paid $20 for my neck knife but it wasn't worth it. What was most frustrating was reprofiling it to a good edge, and then it not holding it. Yes I can sharpen, both free hand and with machines.

Since my disappointment, I've examined probably 15 different Wicked knives. There is a great disparity in their grinds and fit/finish. My suggestion is to only buy a Wicked knife if you can hold it in your hand. But then that didn't work for me.

By the way, Wicked knives are factory knives.

Some are made from laser cut blanks but they are all ground by hand. Others are done completely by hand. I don't think Newt's workshop qualifies as a factory.

Hey Brownshoe,
I guess everything isn't for everybody. I have had good experience so far with my titanium tiger, and my woo. BTW I sweat like a pig and the RIG (rust inhibiting grease)and CLP Breakfree keep my Woo in tip top shape.
