W&SS Forum Neck Knife - next run suggestions?

You guys are correct. I am an idiot.....:(

I have done several neck knife runs and I got them confused.

I was able to do that first run so cheap because I got the steel for cheap (I have a few tricks up my sleeve).

Anyway, what reminded me was that I was getting ready to order more of the same stuff and a light came on. ...."duh"....I checked the original thread and you are right...it was 3V.

That said I would love to do one in S90v

zdp189 is a fun steel but hard to get in large quantities.

M4 would rock but I dont know how many people are familiar with it.

Well, people should do their best to familiarize themselves with CPM-M4. Takes a very fine edge well, it holds an edge, and is very strong. There's a reason all of the competition knives are made from it. That stuff is awesome!

What about S90V?

I am very curious to try it. Would have crazy-long edge holding. Anyone who has sharpened 3V, S30V, D2, etc. shouldn't have a problem sharpening it (needs diamond hones).

I don't see needing toughness as a high priority with this knife - helpful, but not #1. Edge-holding and stain resistance seem higher up there.

And yes, I would be doing a skeletonized version primarily, with the option to add handles.

Ok - it's Official. I've ordered more CPM3V for a 2nd run of the WSS knife.

AND

I've ordered some S90V as well.

We'll see how it goes.
