W.t.f!

However, Mr. Day played down the possibility of enacting tough security measures in Canada's bus terminals, similar to what already exists in airports.

“People should always be open to looking at precautionary measures. But let's keep in mind that as bizarre and tragic as this is, it is extremely rare,” Mr. Day said.

He also dismissed talk by some opposition MPs of a “knife registry,” saying that millions of them are bought each year simply for kitchen use. He added that there are already provisions in the Criminal Code against crimes and assaults.

Thank god someone in power has some sense.

I would like verification of this story, it was not on CNN or FOX this morning and you know that if this were true it would have been the headline story. "If it bleeds it leads"

WTF... that is just rediculous... obviously that guy wanted to be shot by the police, why didn't they shoot him...:grumpy:

It was in Canada. And Mr. Day's statement was a classic of sane, logical analysis -- another reason the media might not have been interested. :p

What, making him go on living with himself?

of course they couldn't shoot him. They had him under control, just waiting until they could take him into close custody. Now the Canadian taxpayer gets to feed and entertain him for the next phase of his excremental existence. But what can you do? We really don't want to encourage police shooting people just because they're easy targets.

You found this in Bladeforums "Current Events" forum? Why would you crosspost it to WILDERNESS & SURViVAL SKILLS, of all places?

Someone else just put it in the Canadian forum which makes sense -- he's Bus Driver, so I can see the interest.

It might even make some sense in Prac Tac.

Edit: here's the Current Events link: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=573073

We wilderness types tend to keep to ourselves and share only amongst ourselves here. ;)

:p

That's great, but ultimately it turns each forum into it's own website. As long as there is some hookup or human interest, OK. But how about "we're all W&SS here, let's sell each other knives, too"? :D

OK! :D actually, everyone seems to keep it to such a minimum here, and understands to keep it so, that I personally am okay with it if you supermods are. If it ever gets out of hand, I'll start moving threads to the other forums.

Besides, I don't want to embarrass Tony by revealing that he is a ... little ... slow, and I want him to keep his self-esteem intact. :p

We just pat him on the back and say, "Good job, young man. Next time, maybe you'll get it right." That sort of thing...:D

Also, posting etiquette, as I explained it to Bus Driver as well: Don't just slap a link up there and expect you've gotten the job done.

Tell the story in your own words, tell us what it means to you, why you care, what should be done -- all that takes is a brief paragraph. THEN post the link for us to check out the details.

I don't want to have to put you guys on Double Secret Probation! :grumpy:

I like being called young man:thumbup:, everybody lately has been teasing me about turning 30.

To Essav;
In regards to posting it here, I just thought I'd share it with the guys in the WSS in case they don't chck out the rest of B.F.'s. I appologize and will just link it next time. I am a bit slow:o

Sorry for the lack of posting etiquette, I will try to use better judgement next time. :(

Damn, as a fellow Canuk and knife collector this really sucks! ! !

My thoughts go out to the victim's family, a terrible way for a life to end.

I can just imagine the cries to ban hunting knives then all knives after this incident.

People are already freaked out by knife ownership, not a clue why but I tend to keep a lower profile with my daily carry items.

One freak can really bugger up the works for everyone.

I agree with you that this is a terrible situation for this young man and his friends and family.

Regarding the knife, some media are reporting that is was a "rambo" style knife so I think it is irresponsible for some media to categorize the knife as a "hunting knife".

Unfortunately Bcornelis,

You know the media, they'll grab hold of the incident and use it to decry the knife in all it's forms. From the lowly (but lovely) SAK to the Buck 110 to any fixed blade . . .

Add the STUPID Wasp Knife propaganda out there, the current anti-knife campaign in Britain and I fear the backlash is coming for regular users of these "weapons"

Funny, I always thought of knives as tools first and weapons a distant second.

Only time will tell gents :(
