I've never used W1, but my son has purchased some and wants to work with it. He thinks I have a limitless amount of info for blade work in my head (boy do I have him fooled!), but I couldn't help with this specific information on heat treat temps and procedure for W!. I think it's probably not much different than most 10XX steels, but sure would like to be spot on. He does have a new Evenheat oven and Parks 50 to quench.
Thanks,
Rick

Afaik Rick treat like 1095. Normalize 2 times, Austenize at 1450 with a soak if you're using the kiln, parks 50 should be perfect to quench with.

Temper at 450 for 60ish RC.

I use mostly W2 for mono steel, but it should be similar. Just make sure to thermal cycle as I think W1 has more tendency for grain growth than W2.

HT is the same as 1095. One tip is to place in the temper oven immediately after removing from the quench tank, and before it drops to room temp. Suggested temp is around 120F.
